Mother's Day: A note from the heart for the Dad-to-be

Team Digit, 10 May 2020

Dear Dad to be,

Firstly, congratulations! Becoming a parent is one of life’s most fulfilling journeys and we’re sure you’re excited about this new role you’re going to play. There will be many sleepless nights ahead but it’s all worth it in the end.

This Mother’s Day, we thought of writing to you, the dad to be, reminding you of some of the things you can do to help the mom to be.

Your wife’s body is going through a lot of changes. She might feel nauseous and fatigued, which means she needs extra help and needs you to be more understanding.

She will not be able to walk as quickly as before or stand for long periods.

She cannot go out and meet friends and family because of all the restrictions and this can get frustrating for her.

Both of you might be juggling work and home responsibilities, adding to the stress and uncertainty.

While you might know these things, no harm in reminding you.

It’s not easy to go through a pregnancy during a pandemic. Hospital visits might get longer because of all the extra precautions, leaving both of you exhausted.

Well, here are some things you can do to keep the mom to be’s spirits up:

  • Attend online classes together: In an ideal world, both of you could have attended a workshop or been part of a group that meets regularly. But since you can’t do that, look for online communities to help you fill that gap. Hospitals and birth homes are offering webinars on pregnancy. There are numerous groups on social media where you can interact with other couples going through the same challenges as you. It’s important to realize that you’re not alone on this journey.
  • Cook something healthy and delicious:  Now is a good time to brush up on your cooking skills. Dish out a healthy (and tasty) salad and surprise her. Check out some recipes online and prepare some of her favorite dishes. When you spend more time in the kitchen, your wife gets more time to rest.
  • Check-in on her: While managing work and home, you sometimes forget that your wife can’t do things like she used to before. And she might not want to tell you what she is going through. This means it’s on you to check in on her and see if she needs something.
  • Keep fit together: We understand you are stuck at home for the most part. But that isn’t a reason for you both to ignore your health. Look for videos and communities online where you can find exercises and resources that both of you can do together. You both need to stay fit as parenting will require all the energy you can muster!
  • Update your insurance plan: Covid-19 has become a part of our lives and we need to learn to live with it. To ensure you’re fully protected, check if both your health insurance plans cover it. If not, just switch to Digit Health Insurance which has a Coronavirus cover.

We wish you all the best and may the both of you and your baby be healthy, strong, and above all else, happy! Also, don't forget to wish her a Happy Mother's Day from us! :)
