Least seismically active zone, covering 41% of India’s land area. States falling under this zone are Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Kerala. Karnataka, Tamilnadu, & Andhra Pradesh.

 Zone III

Moderate-damage risk zone, covering 30% of India’s land area. States in this zone are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Goa, and some parts of the South Indian states.

Zone IV

High-damage risk zone, covering 18% of India’s land area. States in this zone are Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat & Maharashtra.

 Zone V

Highest-risk damage zone, covering 11% of India’s land area. States in this zone are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
