Arogya Sanjeevani policy is a new, standard health insurance policy set by the IRDAI from the 1st of April, 2020 and will be offered by all health insurance companies in India, including Go Digit General Insurance. This standard plan provides for a basic health insurance cover of between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakhs.
If you’re someone who’s often felt boggled down, and confused over all the varying health insurances online, you’re not alone. That’s why, The Arogya Sanjeevani policy was launched by the IRDAI, as an approach to simplifying health insurance by providing a basic, standard plan that will be offered by all health insurance companies, with exactly the same benefits.
Perhaps the only thing that differentiates one from another, is the service offered by each health insurance provider, during the buying and claim process and its premium price.
Coverage for all pre and post hospitalization expenses, that could occur due to an illness or accident. Treatment and hospitalization for the Covid-19 too, will be covered under this.
Alternative treatments done as an inpatient in eligible hospital too can be covered.
For every claim-free year, you and your family get rewarded with a 5% bonus in your sum insured!
Room rent is covered up to 2% of the SI maximum upto Rs 5,000 per day.
ICU/ICCU charges are covered up to 5% of the SI maximum upto Rs 10,000 per day.
Ambulance charges with a maximum cap of ₹2,000 per hospitalization are included in the policy.
Plastic surgery or dental treatments necessitated owing to an injury or a disease are covered.
Expenses incurred towards the treatment of cataract for each eye. Policyholders can avail coverage of up to ₹40,000 or 25% of the total sum insured, whichever is lower.
Modern treatments, including balloon Sinuplasty, Immunotherapy and Stem Cell Therapy, amongst many other treatments (list given below) can be covered to up to 50% of the total sum insured.
While the entry level for the purchase of this policy is limited to those between the ages 18 to 65 years, this policy comes with lifelong renewability, as long as you renew it on time.
Since this is a basic, standard policy set by the IRDAI, the health insurance premium for the same is comparatively lower than other health insurance policies in the market.
Every health insurance company comes with their own set of copayment limitations. Some at least have a 10-20% copayment involved, while some come with no copayment at all. In this case, this policy comes with a minimum copayment of 5% only, i.e. during claims you will have to 5% of the expenses from your pocket.
The Arogya Sanjeevani Policy comes with two plans available: An Individual Health Policy (One policy each for a family member) and a Family Floater Health Insurance (One policy for the entire family).

The Arogya Sanjeevani provides for basic benefits such as hospitalization expenses and a few other benefits such as AYUSH and Cataract Surgeries among others. However, it doesn't include features like a maternity cover, OPD and domiciliary care. So if you’re someone looking for something comprehensive, with additional benefits, this policy may not be enough.
