How much home insurance coverage do I really need?
To determine how much home insurance coverage you really need, start by calculating the reconstruction cost of your home, not its market value. This includes the cost of rebuilding the structure based on current material and labour rates in your area.
Then, add the value of your home contents, such as furniture, appliances, electronics, and valuables. Consider any additional coverage for natural disasters or theft if you're in a high-risk area. The goal is to ensure you're fully protected without overpaying for unnecessary coverage.

If your home is damaged or destroyed due to insured events, the policy covers the cost of repair or reconstruction. It also includes expenses like debris removal, architect and engineer fees, and rent for alternative accommodation if your home becomes uninhabitable.
