Here’s to a healthier health goals

Featured 11th-May-2022

As the year comes to an end, many people sit down to make ‘resolutions’ for the next year.

It’s easy to make resolutions but harder to keep them, and one of the resolutions on everyone’s list is being healthy.

Some people want to lose weight, some want to be more active, some want to eat better, and some want to reduce or get off medications.

Here are a few ways to make and keep your health resolutions in 2020:

a)    Make systems instead of just creating goals:

'Lose 10 kilos’ is a goal. But you need a system to get there. Moreover, losing 10 kilos can seem very hard to accomplish.

‘Exercise four days a week for 45 minutes’ is a system and creates a pathway for you to move closer to your goal.

Systems instill discipline, allowing you to work on your goal in a systematic manner.

b)    Be accountable to someone

When you pursue your health goals with a partner, you can keep each other accountable and on track to accomplish your goals. Being accountable puts positive pressure on you to stick to your goals as you feel you are not alone on your journey.

c)    Find an activity that excites you

It’s easy to fall for trends. A friend tells you that they are on the keto diet, so you begin it, even though it doesn’t suit you. Another friend tells you they have started running and you start running, even though yoga suits you better. In today’s world, there is no shortage of choices and it’s easy to get confused. Find what you’re comfortable with and stick with it instead of just following someone else.

d)    Don’t ignore your mental health

It’s easier to track physical health than it is to track mental health. But how you feel influences how you react to life’s stresses. There are many things you can do for your mental health like journaling, meditation and spending time in nature. Whatever it is, don’t ignore this as it is as important, if not more, than your physical health.

e)    Start small

In your enthusiasm to be healthy, it’s easy to set big goals like running a marathon. But once you realize the effort involved, it’s easy to get intimidated. Sometimes it’s better to start small. Start with walking. Find the gym intimidating? There are numerous apps with workouts you can do in the comfort of your home itself. While doing something big might seem appealing, sometimes it is better to start small.

f)     Don’t postpone buying health insurance

Even if you follow through on your health resolutions, you can’t ignore health insurance. While you might be healthy, you never know when you might need it. With health costs increasing, a simple hospitalization can cost you a lot of money and eat into your savings. Having health insurance ensures that you are protected from life’s uncertainties.

We hope you have your healthiest year yet in 2020 by staying healthy in all aspects.Â
