Basis Motor Vehicle Category

1. Driving Licence for Non-Gear Two-Wheelers: Driving Licence issued for gearless vehicles like mopeds, scooters, etc.

2. Driving Licence for Two-Wheelers or Four-Wheelers with Gear or Light Motor Vehicles: Driving Licence for Light Motor Vehicles such as cars, sedans, hatchbacks, and bikes with gears.

Basis Licence Category

1. Learner’s Licence: Without a learner's licence, you cannot apply for a permanent driving licence. So, you can visit the nearest R.T.O. office in Chennai and collect the application form for a learner's licence.

2. Permanent Driving Licence: After successfully completing the written and driving tests, you can get the permanent DL from the R.T.O. 

3. Duplicate Driving Licence: If a licence holder has lost the permanent DL, they can apply for a duplicate driving licence.

• For a Learner's Licence to drive a gearless bike, you should be at least 16 years old or above.

The application procedure for a Driving Licence in Jaipur is simple and divided into two stages. In the first stage, you should apply for a Learner's Licence, valid for 30 days. And after a month, you can apply for a permanent Driving Licence.

Steps to Apply for Learner's Licence Online

• Step 1: To apply for a learner's licence online, visit Sarathi Parivahan's official website.

• Step 2: Go for the “Drivers/Learners Licence” option under "Licence Related Service".

• Step 3: Select “Rajasthan” from the list of states.

• Step 4: The first option on this page is “Apply for Learner Licence”; select it.

• Step 5: Select relevant options to continue the application procedure and submit the form with a fee of ₹200.

• Step 6: Collect the application number so that you can track the learner’s licence.

Steps to Apply for a Learner’s Licence Offline

• Steps 1: To apply for the learner's licence offline, you need to visit the nearest R.T.O. office.
• Step 2: Collect form No. 4 for learner’s licence and fill it properly.
• Step 3: Submit the form along with the required documents.
• Step 4: After submission, the R.T.O. will provide you with an application receipt and a slot for appearing in the preliminary test. This test evaluates your knowledge regarding the traffic rules and signals. The R.T.O. will provide you with the learner's licence upon clearing the test.
• Step 5: You must pay the applicable fee to collect the learner's licence, which is valid for 30 days. 
• Step 6: Finally, you can book a slot for the driving test.

• Step 1: To obtain a permanent driving licence, you must visit the R.T.O. on the date the test slot is booked. The test will be conducted in the presence of a Motor Vehicle Inspector. You must bring your motor vehicle and learner's licence. 
• Step 2: If the Motor Vehicle Inspector is satisfied with your performance, you will be sent for the biometrics.
• Step 3: Pay the fees of Rs.200/- to get a Driving Licence.
• Step 4: After this, your Driver’s Licence will be issued to you.

Your Duplicate Driving Licence is not an extra copy provided for your records or use. It is another official document with the same relevance and importance as the original DL. 

A Duplicate Driving Licence is issued when you apply for it after the original DL was lost or stolen. It is a must that after losing the licence, you can file an F.I.R. and a complaint to R.T.O. for the same. You should also get an affidavit that states about the loss of DL.

Steps to Apply for a Duplicate Licence Online

• Step 1: Log in to the Sarathi Parivahan website.

• Step 2: Navigate to “Licence Related Services” and select “Other Services” from the options provided.

• Step 3: You will be redirected to a different page. Click on “Apply for Duplicate DL”.

• Step 4: A list of instructions will pop up; click "Continue” to proceed.

• Step 5: Enter your DL number, date of birth, and the provided CAPTCHA code on the next page and proceed.

• Step 6: Provide the relevant documents and a fee of ₹200. The R.T.O. authorities will verify the documents and the reason for the loss of the permanent DL and issue a duplicate DL for you. 

It is important to note that the process to apply for a duplicate licence should be completed within 6 months after you have lost the original DL.

Steps to Apply for a Duplicate Licence Offline

• Step 1: If you want to apply for a duplicate licence offline, first, you need to visit the same R.T.O. from where you have received your permanent driving licence.
• Step 2: Collect the L.L.D. form and complete the application form with all mandatory information. Add necessary documents and provide a reason for losing a driving licence.
• Step 3: Pay a fee of ₹200 while submitting the form and collect the receipt, which will serve the purpose of your driving licence until you receive the duplicate one.

Documents Required for a Duplicate Licence

• Application form duly filled and signed.

• A copy of the complaint, F.I.R., and an affidavit.

• 2 passport-size photographs.

• Proof of residence.

• The fee receipt of Rs.200/- for a duplicate licence.

• Self Declaration Form 1 A for medical fitness.

A driving licence is valid for 20 years or up to 50 years of age, whichever is earlier. This implies that if the validity of the driving licence remain, but you turn 51, you need to immediately apply for the renewal. You should plan for the renewal nearly 30 days before the expiry. 

You cannot miss the renewal of your Driving Licence as it is a must-have document every time you get on the road driving your vehicle.

Steps to Apply for Renewal of Driving Licence Online

• Step 1: To renew your driving licence, visit the official Sarathi Parivahan website.

• Step 2: Scroll down to navigate the “Other Services” tab under “Licence Related Services”.

• Step 3: You will get an option, “Apply for DL Renewal”, on the next page, select it.

• Step 4: Choose the relevant options to proceed and submit the application form with a fee of ₹200. You need to submit a copy of the expired driving licence and other documents as asked by the R.T.O.

Steps to Apply for Renewal of Driving Licence Offline

• Step 1: For offline DL renewal, you need to visit the nearest R.T.O. office and collect the driving licence renewal form.
• Step 2: Complete the form with the required information and documents. Provide a copy of your expired driving licence and pay a fee of ₹200. 
• Step 3: Collect the receipt form to track the status of your driving licence.

Documents Required for Renewal of the Driving Licence

• Copy of expired driver's licence.

• Application fees of Rs.200/- and receipt. Rs.300/- will be charged if the renewal is applied after the grace period of 30 days.

• Medical certificate Form 1 and Form 1A if you are more than 40 years old.

• Application form 9.

• 2 passport-size photographs.

• Self-attested copies of age proof and address proof.

• Form 1 and Form 1A, if your age is above 50 years.

An International Driving Licence is needed when driving a motor vehicle in foreign lands. The validity period of an I.D.L. issued in Jaipur is 1 year. You can apply for an I.D.L. only if you hold a valid Driving Licence. This is because an I.D.L. will always work in conjunction with the original Driving Licence.
