According to the news, after the introduction of the revised Motor Vehicles Act of 2019, the number of road accidents in Ranchi has decreased a lot. The year 2020 witnessed a 70% reduction in road accidents.
Another piece of news says that on a recent visit to Ranchi, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Mr Nitin Gadhkari announced several projects to improve the transport system.
When Were the New Traffic Fines Implemented in Ranchi?
The Jharkhand Government charges the above-mentioned traffic fines in Ranchi based on the Amended Motor Vehicles Act of 2019. The government amended the act to reduce the number of traffic accidents and violations in the country.
On 1st September 2019, the Ranchi Transport Department implemented the act. Since then, the rates of most fines have increased. Especially, serious offences such as driving/riding without a licence and overloading two-wheelers have seen an increase in their rates.
Have Traffic Fines Been Reduced in Ranchi?
Initially, the Jharkhand Government opposed the implementation of the newly revised act. After careful consideration, the act has been implemented since 1st September 2019. Authorities and experts are considering this move as a step in the right direction.
After the implementation of the Revised Motor Vehicles Act of 2019, the rates of Ranchi traffic fines have increased. Earlier the fine for driving a vehicle without a valid license was ₹500, whereas the fine for the same violation now is ₹5000. The main purpose of implementing such high traffic fines in Ranchi is to reduce the number of traffic accidents. People will not violate traffic rules if they are subjected to higher traffic fines.
