An HSRP number plate contains a chromium holographic design. This design is applied to the plate using a hot stamping process, including a laser-branded PAN.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) introduced the High-Security Number Plate to reduce vehicle number plate thefts, enhance security, track vehicles within the country and standardise the registration process. It is a laser-etched code and a hologram that prevents forgery. 

The HSRP Number Plate was introduced in Delhi on two dates:

• For newer cars, it was introduced on April 30, 2012.

• For older cars, it was introduced on June 15, 2012.

As per the rules set by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2022, every vehicle bought after 2019 in Delhi should have HSRPs, regardless of their date of manufacture. 

The HSRPs have certain advanced security features that keep your car safe from counterfeit number plate theft. Lacking an HSRP can result in a fine of ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.

Every car owner in Delhi, whether new or old, is eligible for an HSRP number. To obtain one, the owner needs to contact the vendors associated with the official website of HSRP, who take care of the plate specifications and the legal formalities. 

An HSRP number also provides a sense of safety and identity to one’s vehicle.

The following steps elaborate on how to apply for a High-Security Number Plate in Delhi through an online process:

Step 1: Open ‘Book my HSRP’.

Step 2: Select the first tabloid that says ‘High-Security Registration Plate with Colour Sticker’. 

Step 3: Fill in the details one by one, such as the state, registration number, chassis and engine number, etc.

The documents required to apply for HSRP in Delhi are:

• A Registration Certificate of your vehicle for the required vehicle details. 

• A Payment Confirmation Receipt for proof. 

However, these don’t need to be uploaded when applying online.

Follow the steps mentioned below to check the status of an HSRP number plate in Delhi:

• Step 1: Look for the official website of ‘Book my HSRP’ and click on it. 

• Step 2: Click on ‘Track Your Order’ on the webpage.

• Step 4:  Write down the captcha and click on search at the bottom of the page. The screen will show all the details related to your order number.

The following section contains the steps to apply for a duplicate HSRP number plate in Delhi:

• Step 1: Visit the official HSRP website.
• Step 2: Go on and choose the ‘Replacement/Retain/Transfer’ option.

• Step 3: Then, enter the state, vehicle registration number, and other required details and tap on ‘Click Here’.

• Step 2- On the top of the homepage, you will find the ‘Cancel Order’ option.
