High-security registration Plates (HSRPs) are a new development step in vehicle identification and security solutions. These speciality number plates have been developed to address the increasing issues of car theft, alteration, and forgery in India. HSRPs must be fitted on all new vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, trucks, jeeps, vans, etc.

HSRPs are designed to offer strong protection against crime perpetrated on vehicles. The plates include an identifying number, a rich hologram, and a security mark engraved through laser technology. They are made from materials such as aluminium, which initially makes them immune to tampering.

These plates are standardised to improve traceability, making it difficult for criminals to obscure or modify a vehicle's identity.

HSRPs, especially in Rajasthan and many parts of the Indian region, can be attributed to a significant policy change by the central governing body. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, issued a substantial notification on December 4, 2018 (GSR 1162 (E) and another notification on December 6, 2018 (SO 6052).

These notifications proved a turning point in vehicle registration and security throughout the country and Rajasthan. The directives prescribed the nationwide introduction of HSRPs and colour-coded stickers, also known as the Third Registration Plate. 

This integrated approach was planned to be launched in 2019 as a tool for global change in vehicle identification and increasing road safety.

Contrary to many places, using high-security registration plates is not an option in Rajasthan; it is a compulsion for all vehicles, old and new. This mandate comes from MoRTH and is part of a more extensive policy to increase vehicle security, curb thefts and illegitimate production and increase the safety of roads in the state.

The implementation timeline is clear: HSRPs must be installed on all vehicles produced and sold on or after April 1st, 2019, starting from the point of sale.

High-security registration plates are available in Rajasthan without restriction, meaning all owners within the state are allowed to use them. This broad mandate applies to all new or old vehicles and is essential for standardised vehicle identification and security. 

The requirement applies to all types of vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and so on, irrespective of the date of purchase or registration. Most importantly, this directive applies to all vehicles manufactured and sold before the national rollout of the HSRPs, effective April 1, 2019.

For those opting to use the Book My HSRP portal, here's a step-by-step guide to navigate the process:

• Step 1: Go to the official website of the Book My HSRP.
• Step 2: Choose the “High-Security Registration Plate with Colour Sticker " option.

• Step 3: Click on the “Book” button to proceed.
• Step 4: Now, you must enter the state as Rajasthan along with other required information, such as the vehicle's registration number, engine number and chassis number.

• Step 4: After this, click on “Search”, and you will be able to view your HSRP status update on the screen.

When applying for a high-security registration plate (HSRP) in Rajasthan, the vehicle owner is supposed to produce some documents.

• Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
• Insurance Certificate
• Photo ID proof such as an  Aadhar Card, PAN card or Driving Licence.

• Step 1: To use Book My HSRP, open the official website through your web browser.
• Step 2: On the website’s homepage’s right side, click the “Track Your Order” button.

• Step 3: You'll be directed to a new page where you need to input the following information:
  • Order number
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Captcha code

• Step 4: Once you have filled in all the necessary information, click on the ‘Search’ button to input your search.

You can apply for a duplicate if your High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is lost, damaged, or stolen. These steps must be followed if your original HSRP is lost, damaged, or stolen.

• Step 1: Log on to the official website of Book My HSRP.
• Step 2: On the home page, there is a “Replacement/Retain/Transfer” button; click on it and then continue by clicking on “Book”.

• Step 3: Enter vehicle details including:
  • Engine number
  • Registration number
  • Chassis number
  • Other required details

• Step 4: Select Rajasthan as the registration state, simplifying searching for vehicles in this region.
