What are the Types of OBC Certificates in India?

The Indian government categorises its population into different castes, where you can see people from General, Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). In this system, a particular segment of educationally and socially disadvantaged citizens is termed as ‘OBC,’ and they are issued the corresponding certificate.

There are mainly two types of Other Backward Class certificates:

Certificate Type Description
OBC A Certificate This is issued to individuals from the OBC category whose annual family income is ₹8 lakhs or less.
OBC B Certificate This is extended to individuals from the OBC category who earn more than ₹8 lakhs per year. Additionally, if either parent held a Group A or Group B officer position before the age of 40, the individual is eligible only for an OBC B certificate.
