0% GST on Travel Insurance

India removed the 18% Goods & Services Tax (GST) on travel insurance to boost affordability and adoption, especially for medical- and accident-led travel covers for both domestic and international. The exemption applies from September 22, 2025 and has been widely acknowledged across major insurers and media.

Importantly, expert coverage explains that comprehensive travel policies bundled with health or accident protection fall within the scope of the exemption, while group covers and certain standalone add-ons may still be taxed.
