The FASTag Annual Pass NHAI is a toll payment scheme introduced on August 15, 2025. This initiative by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) aims to simplify toll payments for frequent commuters on national highways and expressways. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass offers unlimited toll-free crossings for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. It is available for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
The Annual Pass will benefit those who don't want to pay the toll each time they cross an NHAI-operated toll plaza, saving the hassle of using a FASTag when travelling regularly through NHAI. It offers a year-long payment option as a fixed cost, reducing the hassle of maintaining multiple FASTag recharges.
Here are the latest FASTag annual pass rules:
Annual Fee: ₹3,000 for the year 2025–26.
Validity: 1 year from activation or 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.
Coverage: Applicable only on NHAI and MoRTH-managed national highways and expressways.
Exclusions: Not valid on state highways, private expressways, or local municipal tolls.
Activation: No new tag is needed; activate via the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/IHMCL website.
Processing Time: Activation confirmed within 2 hours.
Linkage: Pass is digitally tied to the vehicle registration number (VRN).
Non-Transferable: Valid only for the activated vehicle; cannot be moved to another car.
Usage Limit: 200 free toll trips or one year, whichever ends first.
Renewal: Can be renewed easily through the app or website.
Balance Requirement: No minimum balance needed for covered roads.
Other Roads: A regular FASTag balance is required for toll plazas that are excluded.
The annual FASTag pass operates differently from traditional FASTag, based on the number of trips taken, not toll amounts.
Trips-Based System: Each time you cross at a toll plaza, you are charged for one trip. For point-based toll plazas, one crossing counts as one trip, meaning a round trip would be charged as two trips. In closed toll plazas where entry and exit stations are charged, the entire journey is considered one trip.
Trip Limit and Validity: The pass is valid for 200 trips, or one year from activation, whichever comes first. When the cap or the year is reached, the FASTag returns to standard pay-per-use functionality.
Specific to Vehicle, No Transfer: The annual pass is tied to a single vehicle's FASTag. It cannot be transferred to another car.
No Refund: The pass is non-refundable, even if you do not complete all the trips within a year from recharging.
Here are the main key features and benefits of FASTag:
Prepaid Annual Toll Plan: One-time payment of ₹3,000 covers 1 year or 200 toll crossings. No need for recharges, making travel smooth and predictable.
Automatic Toll Payment: Tolls are automatically deducted from your pass when you cross a plaza, eliminating the need for cash or manual payments and reducing wait times at booths.
Nationwide Highway Coverage: Accepted at all NHAI-operated National Highway toll plazas across India. Not valid on state or private toll roads.
One-Time Payment Convenience: Pay once and travel worry-free, without needing to check or top up balances before each trip.
Faster and Smoother Travel: Vehicles move seamlessly through toll booths, reducing queues, saving time, and improving traffic flow.
Fuel and Cost Savings: Less idling results in lower fuel consumption, reduced travel costs, and fewer emissions — a significant eco-friendly benefit.
Cashless and Contactless: A fully digital toll payment system ensures secure, hygienic, and effortless transactions.
Easy Online Management: Users can manage accounts, check usage, and renew the pass through the Rajmarg Yatra app or NHAI portals.
Best for Frequent Travellers: Ideal for daily commuters, fleet operators, and long-distance drivers who use National Highways regularly.
Here are the groups of people who can access it:
Private Vehicle Owners: Private vehicle owners can utilise the FASTag 3000 pass to enhance their journeys by avoiding stops at toll stations.
Commercial Vehicle Operators: Taxi, truck, or bus operators can use the FASTag annual pass regularly to pay the toll charge and utilise the time saved to generate additional revenue while driving on the highways.
Follow the steps below to activate the FASTag annual pass online step-by-step:
Step 1: Download the Rajmarg Yatra App: To begin, download the Rajmarg Yatra app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Although the Government has stated that a pass may also be obtained from the NHAI website, the app currently provides the easiest way to obtain it.
Step 2: Create an Account in the App: After installing the app, open it and sign in with your mobile number or a Google account. You will receive a verification code at your registered mobile number or email address, which you must insert to log in to the app.
Step 3: Select Annual Pass: After signing in, select the 'Annual Pass' option on the main screen and click it. The app will display information, and the 'Activate' button will begin the process.
Step 4: Gather Your Vehicle Information: Ensure your vehicle is eligible for the pass before activating it. Your pass will only cover private cars, jeeps or vans. Plus, ensure that your FASTag account has a positive balance and is not blocked or subject to any toll-related notices.
Step 5: Enter Your Vehicle Number: You must provide your Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). The app will display details about your vehicle and confirm whether it is eligible for an Annual Pass. You can scroll through the details before clicking 'Next'.
Step 6: Verify Yourself with OTP: The app will send an OTP to the mobile number registered in the app; enter it to complete the verification. You may also opt to receive the OTP at another mobile number.
Toll Plazas Administered by the NHAI: The FASTag Money Unlimited Pass is valid for national highways and expressways controlled by NHAI.
Private Vehicles: This pass is permitted on privately-used automobiles, including cars, jeeps, and vans. Taxis, buses, and trucks are not covered.
Validity: 1 Year or 200 Trips. This pass is valid for 1 year or will expire when 200 trips are completed without a toll payment, whichever occurs first.
State-Controlled Expressways / Highways: Service includes Yamuna Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Atal Setu (Goa), etc., or other state-controlled roads.
Municipal / Local Roads: Municipal or locally controlled roads are not covered for toll.
Parking Charges: Parking fees at toll plazas or elsewhere are excluded from the pass.
Excess Trips Beyond Limit: Trips exceeding the annual limit of 200 will incur a charge to the available FASTag balance.
Special Toll Fees or Penalties: Any fines, speeding charges, or extra toll surcharges are not included in the FASTag Annual Pass.
Follow simple steps to renew your FASTag online:
Sign In and Choose Renewal - Go to the issuer's site or app to access your FASTag account, then click 'FASTag Annual Pass Renewal'.
Verify Your Information - Ensure that your vehicle number and FASTag details are accurate.
Make Payment – Complete the ₹3,000 payment online through net banking, UPI, or card.
Yes, some users have reported minor issues. Activation can sometimes get delayed due to network or verification lags. A few toll plazas may display incorrect trip counts or early expiration. The pass works only on NHAI and MoRTH highways, not on state or private roads. Refunds for incorrect deductions may take a few days to process, and the app may experience brief glitches during periods of high traffic or during renewal checks.
A FASTag Annual Pass helps frequent highway travellers save money and time. You pay once for the whole year or a fixed number of trips instead of paying at every toll. This makes it cheaper and easier. You also don't have to stop often or wait in long lines, so your car uses less fuel and you arrive faster.
