How to Get Legal Heir Certificate in West Bengal?

In West Bengal, the legal heir certificates are known as Warish certificates. It legally proves the relationship between the deceased and the rightful heirs. After thorough verification, the Revenue Mandal Officer issues this certificate to the applicant.

Eligible people to get a legal heir certificate in West Bengal are: 

• Wife/Husband of the deceased.
• Children of the deceased.
• Parents of the deceased.

West Bengal government offers two ways to apply for the legal heir certificate: Online and Offline. Let’s look at them one by one:

1. Online Process

• Step 1: Visit banglarbhumi.gov.in and click on “Citizen Services”. 
• Step 2: Click on the “Online Application” tab. 
• Step 3: Under that, you will find “Warish Application”, click on that. 
• Step 4: Fill the form with all the relevant details. 
• Step 5: Upload all the necessary documents related to you and the deceased. 
• Step 6: Submit the form. 
• Step 7: A pop-up window will appear with your application number. You have to write it down for future use. 

2. Offline Process

• Step 1: Visit the nearest Taluk Office.
• Step 2: Acquire an application form.
• Step 3: Fill in the form with the important details and information.
• Step 4: Attach the required documents.
• Step 5: Affix a stamp of ₹2.
• Step 6: Submit the form. 

After this, a verification process will be held, and your certificate will be issued.

The following documents of the applicant are required by the government authorities to issue a legal heir certificate in West Bengal: 

• The ration card of the heir.
• Any Identity proof of the heir. (Aadhaar card, Driving license, etc,.)
• Death certificate of the deceased.
• Proof of the relationship between the heir and the deceased.
• Appropriately filled application form. 

The fee to apply for a legal heir certificate is ₹2 to affix the court stamp and the application form.
