Can I apply for a passport through the Tatkaal scheme?

The passport office has the final say in whether or not to provide a passport under the Tatkaal scheme. However, there is a list of candidates who are not eligible to use the Tatkaal system to apply for passports. It is not possible to report a lost passport through the call centre. Passport loss should be reported immediately to the local police station, the passport office, and, if abroad, the Indian Mission.

What different kinds of Police Verification are there?

The police can verify information in two ways: Police Verification is required on a Post-Passport Issuance basis. Police Verification is required on a Pre-Passport Issuance basis. The Passport Offices will determine which type of police verification is necessary based on whether the application is for the issuance of a new passport or a re-issue of an existing passport. Pre-police verification is typically necessary.
