Soil Health Card Scheme (SHC) is a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Agriculture and promoted by the Department of Agriculture and Co-operation. The Department of Agriculture implements this scheme in all states and union territories.
SHC scheme was brought into action by PM Narendra Modi for the welfare of farmers. Soil health card provided to the farmers helps them understand the nutrient status of the soil. Due to this, farmers can know about the crops that they can plant in the soil and get maximum yield while harvesting it. SHC scheme also helps farmers get an idea of the dosage of fertilisers and changes required to maintain soil health in the long run.
Due to a lack of education, most farmers in India are uncertain about the outcome of their cultivation. A Soil Health Card helps them understand the nutrient status of soil and amount of fertilisers necessary to get the best yield. This card is provided to farmers once every two years. SHC scheme looks forward to making soil testing facilities available at farmers' doorsteps.
