Collaborative efforts from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Revenue Department, and Survey of India churned out the Svamitva Yojana. An effort to minimise land disputes, monetise properties and offer loans against belongings to achieve a true sense of Gram Swaraj and Atmanirbhar Bharat. 

The Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi, projected this scheme for village areas on Panchayat Raj Day, i.e. 24th April 2020.

It involves surveying the land parcels with drones to collect property data and provide ownership to rural inhabitants in the form of a 'property card' under the 'Record of Rights Act 1971'.

This Yojana enables users to document their properties and use them for various economic purposes. It can be used as a financial asset or reaping the financial benefits from banks.

The objectives of Svamitva Yojana are listed below.

• To stabilise the financial conditions of citizens living in rural regions.
• Carrying out planning at Gramin levels and mapping land records with precision.
• Determining the property tax to evaluate the total revenue and send it directly to the Gram Panchayats or the State Exchequer.
• Surveying and creating GIS (Geographic Information System) to use as leverage by other departments.
• Improvement in quality of Gram Panchayat Development programs with support from GIS maps.
• Reducing legal disputes and cases regarding a property.

• This scheme benefits 6.62 lakh villages across this nation.
• Resolves various pending legal cases of property with ease.
• Carried out on a phase-wise basis across this country over four years, 2021 to 2025.
• Using drones for mapping the properties accurately and the eGram app to accelerate the projects.
• Survey of India, State Revenue System and Panchayati Raj collaborate to survey the lands.
• Returning the lands to their rightful owners and facilitating tax collections, new plans and permits.

• Pilot phase – The initial step of CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) network establishment is planned for certain states and then extended to other states. For states with completed Abadi surveys, phase II will decide further action after consulting State and SOI (Survey of India).
• Scaling-up phase – Extensive CORS networks and 567 CORS stations are set up across 6.62 lakh villages under this phase.
