Named after the founder of Amritsar, Guru Ram Das, the Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport lies about 11 kilometres in the north-western section of Amritsar. It started operations in 1930 and is the busiest airport in Punjab and the 27th busiest in India in terms of passenger traffic. Recently, a new apron has been constructed in the airport to enhance its capacity.
The Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport, widely acknowledged as Chandigarh International Airport, is one of the most important airports in India. The Airport started operations on 19th October, 2015 and is conveniently situated almost 13 kilometres from the capital city of Chandigarh.
The Patiala Aviation Complex, aka Patiala is located almost 6 kilometres away from the city of Patiala. Built under the supervision of Maharajadhiraj Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in the 20th century, this airport boasts a historical spark. It is the 2nd busiest airport in Punjab.
Bathinda Airport is situated near the hamlet of Virk Kalan Bathinda in central Punjab and began operations on 11th December 2016. From the city of Bhatinda, this airport is almost 25 kilometres away.
Another popular domestic airport in Ludhiana is the Sahnewal Airport, which lies about 5 kilometres away from Ludhiana.
The Pathankot Airport lies about 3 kilometres from the region of Pathankot in the northern province of Punjab. Inaugurated in 21st November 2006, the airport primarily serves domestic Air India flights.
The Beas Airport is a civil airfield located 53.8 km away from the holy city of Amritsar. Being used mostly for personal travel, this airport is considered the major base for the private jets of Radha Soami.
