1. Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar

The Biju Patnaik International Airport, located around 6 kilometres from the capital city Bhubaneswar, is the only international airport in this state named in honour of famed freedom fighter Biju Patnaik. It was opened in 1960.

Due to its rapid infrastructural development, the Biju Patnaik International Airport ranks as the 17th busiest airport in India. It uses airlines like IndiGo, Alliance Air and others to offer flights.

2. Jharsuguda Airport (Veer Surendra Sai Airport), Jharsuguda

Located in the western part of Odisha, the Jharsuguda Airport is located about 9 kilometres away from the city of Jharsuguda. The airport was inaugurated on 22nd September 2018.

After being abandoned for a long time, the State Government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) passed a development project to make this airport active again. It uses airlines like Alliance Air and SpiceJet for offering the flights.

3. Rourkela Airport, Rourkela

During the 1950s, the Rourkela Airport was built by the Tata Iron and Steel Company to carry its officials between Rourkela and Jamshedpur. The airport lies just 5 kilometres away from the city of Rourkela. From 2012, this airport was opened for commoners to travel from Rourkela to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. It offers flights using Alliance Air.

4. Jeypore Airport, Jeypore

Another noteworthy domestic airport of Odisha is the Jeypore Airport which lies 3 kilometres northwest of Jeypore town. Formerly, this airport was used by Vayudoot Airlines in the 1980s to operate Bhubaneswar-bound flights via Visakhapatnam regularly.

The state government passed an order to adjoin more acres of land for its further development. It is offering commercial flights through IndiaOne Air from 2022.

5. Utkela Airstrip, Utkela

6. Savitri Jindal Airport, Angul

Savitri Jindal is a major private airfield that lies about 16 kilometres away from the city of Angul and is administered by Jindal Steel and Power under the DGCA licence. The airport is involved in operating commercial scheduled planes to the notable cities of Bhubaneswar, Rourkela Jeypore, and Jharsuguda.

7. Charbatia Air Base, Cuttack

It is a military airbase of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC) that lies 12 kilometres north of Cuttack. 8. Sri Jagannath International Airport, Puri

• In January 2021, CM Naveen Patnaik planned to establish an international airport in Puri, the Sri Jagannath International Airport.
• This airport will need approximately 1164 acres of land, including 221.48 acres of private and 68 acres of forest land.

Besides, the Government of Odisha plans to establish greenfield airstrips in five locations to enhance intra-state and inter-state public aviation services. These five airfields are set to commence in the industrial regions of:
