Road Tax in Tamil Nadu

There is one flat rate at which the Tamil Nadu Parivahan tax is calculated for the new two-wheelers and four-wheelers. For older vehicles there is a provision as shown in the tables below.

How is Road Tax Calculated?

Tamil Nadu vehicle tax is calculated on the various make, models and purpose of use of the vehicles, engine capacity, registered seating capacity of the vehicle and more. The law that governs it is the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Taxation Act of 1974. Citizens also need to service a Green Tax applicable in the state.

Road Tax Rates for Two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu

For new vehicles there is an 8% cost of the vehicle that needs to be paid.

Road Tax Rates for Four-wheelers in Tamil Nadu

New vehicles costing up to Rs.10 lakh will result in taxes of 10% on its cost. For instance, if the cost is Rs.8 lakh, the resulting Tamil Nadu road tax would be Rs.80000. If at the time of registration, the vehicle cost exceeds Rs.10 lakh, taxes would be applicable at 15%. For older motor vehicles, the tax rate is calculated as follows.

Visit the  Parivahan website and make Tamil Nadu state road tax online payment.

Over there, you can enter your state, the RTO and click on login. After you have done that you will be redirected to enter your registration number. Enter it and make the payment through net banking or debit card.
