What is Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission?

Impact of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

The ABDM brings along the whole health ecosystem to every doorstep across the country. Some of its impacts are as follows:

Improved Healthcare Access

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) significantly enhances access to quality healthcare. By integrating telemedicine with digital health records, it empowers rural communities to address their health needs more effectively.

Digital Infrastructure

The introduction of robust digital infrastructure alleviates administrative burdens and reduces delays. It streamlines processes such as patient registration, appointment scheduling, claims processing, and payments, making the healthcare system more efficient.

Interoperability

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission standardises health data across various platforms, increasing interoperability among health service providers. This integration facilitates the seamless sharing of information, ultimately improving patient care and coordination.

Access to Previous Records

Patients gain more control over their treatment history and health records, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their healthcare. This empowerment enhances patient engagement and improves health outcomes.

Availability of Data

The availability of comprehensive health data aids policymakers in making informed decisions. It supports effective planning for healthcare facilities and resource allocation while also allowing for the assessment of improvement rates in health outcomes.

Preventive Health

This digital mission also promotes preventive healthcare by facilitating health reviews, regular check-ups, and diagnostic tests. This proactive approach aims to minimise disease burden and increase public awareness of health issues.

Financial Protection

By interfacing with health programs like Ayushman Bharat, the ABDM provides financial protection against high healthcare costs. This is especially beneficial for vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive necessary care without facing significant financial strain.

Components of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) works together with key components designed to create a comprehensive digital healthcare ecosystem. The components are:

Unique 14-Digit Health ID

The ABHA Card (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number is a unique patient identifier for all healthcare providers. It keeps medical history documents in one location. It assists in compiling a patient's lifetime health record and prevents duplicate patient records. A mobile number or Aadhaar information can be used to create an ID.

Health Facility Registry (HFR)

The HFR lists medical facilities, including clinics, labs, and hospitals. It enables people to look for and locate accredited medical professionals and schedule consultations. After providing their current medical licenses and qualifications, healthcare establishments can list themselves on the HFR.

Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR)

The HPR is an extensive database of medical professionals from conventional and contemporary systems. It confirms training records and qualifications. Professionals who want to view and update digital health records for ABDM network patients who have been approved must enrol in the HPR.

Unified Health Interface (UHI)

A UHI is an open standard for digital health services. Applications from participating Health Service Providers (HSPs) and End User Applications (EUAs) can connect to the UHI Network. Appointment scheduling, teleconsultation, service discovery, and other digital health services between patients and health service providers (HSPs) are possible by UHI.

ABHA App

The ABHA App allows users to create a unique health ID, access health records, and avail of various services. An electronic program known as a personal health record, or PHR, will enable individuals to manage and preserve their health information—as well as those for whom they have permission—in a private, secure, and confidential setting.
