There are 2 types of vehicle registrations done by RTO Andheri:

1. Permanent Licence

The RTO Andheri provides permanent vehicle registration for all types of vehicles, including personal and commercial. After registering, a Registration Certificate (RC) is issued, valid for 15 years for private cars and 2 years for commercial vehicles. This registration is mandatory to operate the vehicle legally on public roads.

2. Temporary Licence

The dealer or the RTO Andheri issues temporary registration. Such a temporary registration is valid for one month in which the vehicle's owner must do permanent registration. With temporary registration, the owner legally uses the vehicle until the permanent registration process is completed.

It is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving a vehicle in Andheri. Having insurance will protect riders from the cost of any damages incurred in case of an accident. Besides, it will also eliminate the risk of having to pay the penalty.

The penalty for driving a vehicle without insurance is ₹2000, along with 3 months of imprisonment.

In 2024, Andheri was severely disrupted due to infrastructure projects and increased vehicular movement. The ongoing construction of the metro line extension, particularly, has resulted in traffic bottlenecks around Andheri West and the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road. Commuters have complained of frequent jams in peak hours, owing to closed road stretches, which have forced traffic to widen its main routes.

There was also severe congestion caused by the recent Ganesh Chaturthi festival, when vehicular traffic increased manifolds at different processions and public gatherings, blocking roads in many areas. Temporarily, the Mumbai Traffic Police diverted all the traffic flow from the traffic points where road blockages were happening frequently, especially from Veera Desai Road, JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road), and Andheri station road.

Moreover, monsoon rains have exacerbated traffic issues with waterlogging on key routes like SV Road and Western Express Highway. Potholes and poor road conditions further slowed traffic, making daily commutes difficult. In response, the traffic police have increased patrols and introduced real-time traffic updates to help commuters navigate these challenges and reduce congestion in the area.
