Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) This type of converter is used in diesel-powered vehicles. It focuses on reducing carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC). Oxygen converts these gases into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). 
This converter does not deal with nitrogen oxides (NOx). Other components, such as SCR systems, usually supplement it.
