    The CISF is a branch of the Central Armed Police Forces and is one of the five main armed police groups in India. It is the nation's top multi-skilled security agency. CISF ensures security to the country's vital infrastructure facilities in both commercial and governmental sectors.

    Initially, the force was established as a small unit dedicated to providing security services to public sector undertakings. Now, CISF works for safeguarding India's seaways, airways, metro rails, and other important industrial sectors.

    CISF is responsible for ensuring the security of various strategic establishments in India. These establishments include the Department of Space, Department of Atomic Energy, airports, the Delhi Metro, historical monuments, ports, and other parts of the Indian economy like natural gas and petroleum, coal, steel, electricity, and mining.

    What Are the Responsibilities and Duties of CISF?

    1. Ensures Industrial Security

    CISF's role involves safeguarding vital installations like power plants, oil refineries, steel plants, and nuclear facilities. Furthermore, it will also be responsible for preventing unauthorised access, theft, sabotage, and acts of terrorism.

    Security of airports across the country is one of the main roles of CISF.     The CISF is classified into three main branches:

    • The Executive Office

    • The Divisions of the Fire Service 

    • The Ministry Division

    How to Join CISF?

    To join the Central Industrial Security Force, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Determine the Post

    You need to decide which post you want to apply for in the CISF. The posts include Assistant Commandant, Head Constable, and Assistant Sub Inspector.

    2. Check Notifications

    Remain alert for notifications released by the CISF or the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for Assistant Commandant positions. These notifications provide information about vacancies, the selection process, and many more.

    3. Understand the Selection Process

    You have to familiarise yourself with the selection process of CISF specific to the post in which you are interested. The selection process includes a written test, physical and medical standard tests, and an interview.

    4. Prepare for the Written Test

    What Are the Eligibility Criteria to Join CISF?

    Below are certain criteria for CISF eligibility. You need to meet it to apply for this job.

    1. Nationality Requirements

    To be eligible for the CISF, you must meet the following nationality criteria as stated in the official notification:

    • Candidates must be citizens of India.

    • Candidates can also be subjects of Nepal.

    • Candidates can be subjects of Bhutan.

    • Individuals who are Tibetan refugees and arrived in India before January 1, 1962, to permanently settle in India are also eligible.

    • You must be a candidate of Indian origin who has come from Sri Lanka, Uganda, Pakistan, Burma, East countries of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (previously called Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zaire, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, and Vietnam to settle in India, permanently, can also apply.

    2. Age Limit and Relaxation Criteria

    You must be in the age group of 18 to 25 years to become eligible for this post. Moreover, this age limit for CISF is also applicable to the North Indian Region.

    You also need to qualify for the physical efficiency test consisting of five events. These are as follows:

    • Medical Standard

    Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standards to be eligible for this post. The following table provides more information about the same.
