RTO Nagpur

Nagpur, also known as the Orange City of India, is the winter capital of the state of Maharashtra. It has a very strategic location and hosts some of the biggest custom warehouses in the state. 

Therefore, the Maharashtra government prioritises road infrastructure. There are three RTO offices in Nagpur with the RTO codes MH-31, MH-40 and MH-49. These RTO offices take care of the road network and focus on road safety among its other duties.

The several functions of RTO Nagpur include:

• Issuing the No Objection Certificate or NOC for transfer of vehicle registration

• Registration of vehicles

• Issuing different types of motor vehicle permits

• Conducting driving tests, issuing and renewing driver’s licence

• Issuing and renewing duplicate radio cab licence

The different types of driving licence issued under RTO Nagpur are as follows:

• licence for two-wheelers

• licence for four-wheelers

• licence for medium and heavy goods vehicles 

• licence for medium and heavy passenger vehicles

• licence for invalid carriages 

• licence for road rollers

There are two types of vehicle registration under RTO Nagpur:

• Permanent vehicle registration

• Temporary vehicle registration

The charges for vehicle registration in Nagpur are as mentioned below:

• Charges for registration: ₹600 for all the vehicles

• Charges for number plates: ₹230 to ₹400; charges are the same for High-Security Registration Plates or HSRP number plates 

• Charges for hypothecation: ₹1500 for the vehicles purchased on loan

• Charges for temporary registration: ₹1200 to ₹1500; temporary registration of vehicles is valid only for a month

The road tax charges for the vehicles under RTO Nagpur are levied in accordance with the Maharashtra Road Tax

• Two-wheelers registering for the first time: 10% to 12%

• Two-wheelers that have been registered previously: 32% to 95%

• Petrol-based four-wheelers: 11% to 13%

• Diesel-based four-wheelers: 13% to 15%

• CNG or LPG-based four-wheelers: 7% to 9%

• Four-wheelers that have been registered previously: 27% to 97%

RTO Nagpur is strict with its traffic rules. Not abiding by the traffic rules will make drivers subject to penalties. The penalties charged for breaking traffic rules in Nagpur are as follows:

• Penalty for driving without a licence: ₹500

• Penalty for driving an unregistered two-wheeler: ₹2000

• Penalty for driving an unregistered four-wheeler: ₹4000

• Penalty for entering into a No-Entry zone: ₹200

• Penalty for using a cell phone while driving: ₹200

• Penalty for rash driving: ₹1000

• Penalty for driving over the speed limit: ₹1000

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving a vehicle in Nagpur. Vehicle owners must ensure that their vehicles have a third-party car insurance policy. Not having insurance can lead to the owners paying the penalty or serving imprisonment. The penalty for driving without insurance in Nagpur is ₹2000.

As per a report, two people were killed in a truck accident at Kodegaon village. The victims were on a motorcycle when it skidded in their attempt to apply the brakes. As they fell on the ground, they were run over by a truck. The victims were declared dead when taken to the hospital. 

An accident at Naya Kund resulted in the death of a police officer and seven injured victims. A car that went out of control crashed into a gathering of people. While the people around went to help the driver, another car came at high-speed and rushed into the crowd. This caused severe damage to the people and the death of a police officer. However, the driver managed to escape from the spot. 

Wockhardt Hospital in Nagpur started an awareness campaign named “Haar Ya Helmet". This campaign was started to create awareness among drivers without a helmet. The riders without a helmet were asked to choose between a garland and a helmet. Moreover, those who followed the rules were also called “Road Safety Heroes” as part of the campaign.
