RTO Osmanabad

Dharashiv is the official name of Osmanabad. It is a municipal council and a city in the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra. Home to several popular colleges, tourist spots and entertainment agencies, the roads here often stay busy throughout the day. There is one RTO office in Osmanabad (RTO Code MH-25) that is responsible for controlling the flow of traffic and helping avoid congestion on roads. Apart from this the RTO office also provides various vehicle-related services to different types of vehicles.

The RTO offices in Osmanabad are mainly responsible for the following:

• Conducting driving tests for issuing driver’s licence.

• Registering new vehicles in the city.

• Conducting the fitness test of the vehicles in order to provide vehicle fitness certificates.

• Assists in the transfer of vehicle ownership.

• Providing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for registering the vehicle in another state.

• Ensuring the enforcement of all the rules and regulations stated under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

• Collecting taxes following the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

• Managing road permits to facilitate the growth and development of road transportation.

• Providing different types of vehicle permits to tourists in India.

• Educating people about road safety measures through various campaigns.

Osmanabad RTO issues various types of driving licences because the city has different types of vehicles used for various purposes. Following are the licences provided by Osmanabad RTO:

• Two wheeler licence

• Motor vehicle licence for those without gears.

• Motor vehicle licence for those with gears

• Light motor vehicles for transport purposes.

• Light motor vehicles for non-transport purposes.

• Heavy goods vehicle licence

• Heavy trailer licence

• Open licence for heavy passenger motor vehicles.

In Osmanabad, the following are the two types of vehicle registration provided.

• Temporary registration 

• Permanent registration 

After registering your vehicle, you will receive a registration number from Osmanabad RTO. This number appears on the number plate of your vehicle. 

The registration fees depend upon the type of vehicle and their ex-showroom price. However, the following are the registration fees for specific vehicles:

• For LPG & CNG Vehicles: 7%- 8% depending upon the price range.

• For Vehicles Other than Light Motor Vehicles: ₹1000 - ₹3000

• For Light Motor Vehicles: ₹600

The fee of a duplication registration certificate is half the amount of the registration of the vehicle.

The road tax levied depends upon the type, make and usage of the vehicle. In Osmanabad the Maharashtra Road Tax structure is followed. The road tax is calculated separately for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, depending on engine capacity and fuel types. 

Following are the road tax levied on vehicles:

• Road Tax on Two-wheelers: 10%-13% of vehicle cost subject to a minimum cost of ₹1500

• Road Tax on Four-wheelers: 7%-15% of vehicle cost

If you do not follow the traffic rules in Osmanabad, you will receive an E-challan. In case of delayed payment, your driving licence may get suspended. Below is the list of fines in Osmanabad:

• Driving Without Licence: ₹5000 or community service

• Over Speeding: ₹1000 - ₹4000

• Driving Under Influence: ₹1000 or 6 years imprisonment

• Driving Without Seatbelt on: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving While Using Mobile: ₹5000

It is mandatory to have motor insurance in Osmanabad. There are two types of insurance in such cases, third-party insurance and comprehensive policy. However, third-party insurance is the only mandatory policy. If the car is not insured, you can be fined ₹ 2,000 or face imprisonment for up to three months. If caught for a second time, you might be fined ₹ 4,000. 

The highest number of road accidents that led to death happened in Osmanabad, among other cities, in 2019.

• In April 2022, three people, including an ARTO driver, were killed in a road accident, while nine were injured. 

• Another road accident was reported in December 2021 where an entire family was crushed by a collision with a container truck. 

• Encroachment-free boundary roads.: In a unique approach, Osmanabad (Dharashiv) district in Maharashtra has over the last one year reconstructed 965 kms of boundary roads by removing encroachments. It gave giving direct access of the main road to inland farmers.

• Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD): The Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) Project is an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways that will help police personnel to enter details about a road accident, along with photos and videos. This will help to create a unique ID for the incident.
