RTO Parbhani

Parbhani is the largest city in the Marathwada region and acts as the administrative headquarters of the Parbhani district. The purpose of the two regional transport offices (RTO) here is to enforce the rules and regulations of The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. The RTO Code of Parbhani is MH-22. It comes under the authority of the Maharashtra State Transport Authority and is responsible for keeping a database for all vehicles in Parbhani.

The RTO offices in Parbhani are supposed to carry out various functions as stated below:

• Issuing different types of vehicle permits

• Vehicle registration and renewal of the registration

• Issuing No Objection Certificates for registration of vehicles in another state

• Collecting road tax

• Issuing conductor licence

• Issuing driver’s licence and learner’s licence

• Conducting fitness tests for providing fitness certificates and renewing them

• Arranging road safety campaigns to make people aware of road safety rules

Parbhani RTOs provides types of driving licences for the following vehicles:

• Light motor vehicles for private use

• Light motor vehicles for commercial use

• Light motor vehicles with gears and with an engine capacity of less than or equal to 50cc

• Light motor vehicles without gears, which include mopeds and scooters

• Heavy trailer licence for those who already have a heavy vehicles driving licence

• Open licence or heavy passenger vehicle licence

• Heavy goods motor vehicle licence

There are two types of vehicle registrations provided by Parbhani RTOs:

• Temporary Registration

• Permanent Registration

Vehicle registration charges vary with the type of vehicle and the purpose behind their usage. Following are a few vehicle types along with their registration charges:

• For Vehicles Other than Light Motor Vehicles: ₹1000 - ₹3000

• For LPG & CNG Vehicles: 7%- 8% depending upon the price range

• For Light Motor Vehicles: ₹600

The fee of issuing a duplicate registration certificate is half the amount charged for the registration of a vehicle.

Road tax is levied by Maharashtra Government through the regional transport office in Parbhani. The Maharashtra Road Tax for various vehicles is calculated depending on the type of vehicle and fuel type. The road tax is separately calculated for two-wheelers and four-wheelers (including heavy goods vehicles). 

Road tax levied and collected by RTO Parbhani are as follows:

• Road Tax on Two-wheelers: 10%-13% of vehicle cost subject to a minimum cost of ₹1500

• Road Tax on Four-wheelers: 7%-15% of vehicle cost

If you do not follow traffic rules in Parbhani, you will be fined depending on the offence you have committed. Following is the list of fines for the most common traffic rules violations:

• Over Speeding: ₹1000 - ₹4000

• Driving while Using Mobile: ₹5000

• Improper Use of Horns in Silent Zones: ₹5000 for first-time offenders and ₹4000 for repeating the same offence.

• Driving Under Influence: ₹1000 or 6 years imprisonment

• Driving Without Seatbelt: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving without a Licence: ₹5000 or community service

Without third-party insurance, you cannot drive your vehicle on a public road. If the car is not insured, to drive in public and you can be fined ₹ 2,000 or face imprisonment for up to three months. If caught for a second time, you might be fined ₹ 4,000. Hence, it is mandatory to have motor insurance in Parbhani.

The road conditions and lack of awareness among people is a major concern for road safety in Parbhani. 

In 2022, two were killed in an accident in Parbhani. The incident occurred when a two-wheeler collided head-on with a four-wheeler. Both the motor vehicles incurred damages.

RTO Parbhani road safety campaigns are aimed at educating people about the precautions they need to take to avoid accidents. Additionally, they have a comprehensive and creative way to reach out to people and make them aware of road safety. Following are a few of such campaigns:

• Awareness videos

RTO Parbhani's campaigns about road safety included video clips that show people the consequences of not wearing a helmet and other consequences of not following traffic rules.

• Essay writing competitions

Parbhani RTO has previously arranged for an essay writing competition on behalf of the sub-regional transport office as a part of their 32nd road safety campaign.

• iRAD (Integrated Road Accident Database)

iRAD is an initiative of the ministry of road transport and highways to deal with accidents in an efficient and effective way and to prevent accidents in the future.
