RTO Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri is a port city in Maharashtra. It is a famous tourist spot for historical monuments, temples and beaches. It is located in the Southwestern part of Maharashtra and is a part of the Konkan division of Maharashtra. If you want to get your vehicle registered in Ratnagiri, you need to visit the regional transport office. MH-08 is the code for the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Ratnagiri, and it comes under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra State Transport authority.

RTO Ratnagiri offers the following services:

You will receive a registration number from Ratnagiri RTO after completing your vehicle registration. This number appears on the number plate of your vehicle.

The vehicle registration charges for a few types of vehicles in Ratnagiri are given below:

• Two-wheelers Including Scooters - ₹50

• Three-wheelers and Four-wheelers for Private use - ₹600

• Three-wheelers and Four-wheelers for Commercial use - ₹1000

• Heavy Passenger Vehicle - ₹1000

• Heavy Goods Vehicle - ₹1500

• Medium Passenger Vehicle - ₹1000

• Medium Good Vehicle - ₹1000

• Other Vehicles – ₹3000

Road tax is collected by the Government to repair and maintain roads. The Ratnagiri RTO follows the Maharashtra Road Tax structure. The road taxes here are as follows:

• Road tax on Two-wheelers: 10%-13% of vehicle cost subject to a minimum cost of ₹1500

• Road tax on Four-wheelers: 7%-15% of vehicle cost ranging from 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs

Traffic fines for various traffic rules violations in Ratnagiri are given below:

• Driving Without Licence: ₹5000 or community service

• Over Speeding: ₹1000 - ₹4000

• Driving Under Influence: ₹1000 or 6 years imprisonment

• Driving Without a Seatbelt: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving While Using Mobile: ₹5000

It is illegal to drive your car on a public road without car insurance. Hence, It is mandatory to have motor insurance before you start driving it. Third-party car insurance is compulsory, while a comprehensive insurance policy is not. If you do not get your car insured and drive it on the road, you will have to pay a fine of ₹2000 for the first offence, and ₹4000, for the second time. 

Recent traffic-related events in Ratnagiri include:

• As per a report, an unfortunate accident took the life of a young motorcyclist along with severely injuring two people when two motor vehicles collided head-on.

• The risk of vehicles overturning and spilling harmful chemicals on the road is very common during the monsoon. In a news article from 2022, one truck overrode the safety wall of the Bhoste Ghat in Ratnagiri.

Following are a few campaigns by the transport office authorities of Ratnagiri to curb the incidence of unfortunate road accidents:

• Training personnel 

To handle the spillage of hazardous chemicals due to the overturning of vehicles, Ratnagiri traffic police have trained 100 personnel to act as first responders and compiled a list of chemical experts so that the chemical is cleared to ease the traffic jam caused by it. 

• TREM cards

TREM cards (transport emergency cards) are to be carried by drivers driving vehicles carrying hazardous chemicals. These cards provide instruction to both the drivers and responders in cases of emergency.
