RTO Washim

Washim is located in the eastern portion of Maharashtra. In the Amravati division, this district houses the Karanja Sohol Wildlife Sanctuary. It attracts researchers as well as tourists for safari. Washim RTO authenticates and regulates the flow of vehicles within this city. This RTO office functions under the authority of the Transport Commissioner of Maharashtra. It comes under the RTO code MH-37. Further, the office is also responsible for enforcing transport laws in Washim.

The RTO office of Washim is responsible for performing the following duties:

• Issue/renew DL

• Collect road and vehicle tax

• Issue vehicle fitness certificate

• Provide permits for transport vehicles

• Offers new vehicle registration certificates

• Issues duplicate licence and RC

• Conducts pollution tests for vehicles

• Issue learner’s licence

• Transfers vehicle ownership

• Conduct driving tests for LL and DL

• Temporary Registration

• Permanent Registration

Different vehicle registration charges are applicable in the Washim district. The charges are as per the directions of the Maharashtra transport department. The following are the standard charges:

• Two-wheelers: ₹300 - ₹5000

• Three-wheelers: ₹1000

• Temporary Registration: ₹1200 -₹1500       

• Four-wheelers: Personal – ₹600 - ₹5000, Commercial - ₹1000 - ₹1500

RTO Washim follows the Maharashtra road tax structure. These charges are as follows: 

• Two-wheelers: Ranges between 10% - 12% of the vehicle cost

• Three-wheelers: ₹11,000 - ₹26,400; tax varies as per passenger capacity of the vehicle

• Four-wheelers:  7% - 15%, based on the type of fuel used in the vehicle 

In case of traffic rule violation, traffic police recover the penalty from the concerned violators. Following are the Maharashtra traffic fines applied in Washim district:

• Drunk driving: ₹10,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment

• Riding without a helmet: ₹1000 fine and three months licence disqualification

• Driving without valid RC: First time – ₹5000. For repeated offences, the fine goes up to ₹10,000 

• Not wearing seatbelts: ₹1000

• Driving while using a phone: ₹5000

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance for each vehicle in the Washim district. India's Motor Vehicles Act makes it compulsory for all vehicles to have insurance coverage. As per the law, all vehicles need to have at least third-party insurance coverage for their vehicle. If caught without insurance, the violator may get a fine of ₹2000 - ₹4000. 

According to reports, Washim witnessed an increased number of road accidents in 2020. Washim recorded a 12% increase in road accidents in comparison to 2019. 

Last year, the 700 km long Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway between Mumbai and Nagpur opened its first phase. Passing through Washim, the expressway will boost the district’s connectivity with the financial hubs of Maharashtra. 

The local police department has started a road safety campaign in the district. It was directed to create awareness among locals about traffic rules and regulations. The safety campaign also informed bikers about road safety laws. 

As a part of this mission, traffic police also installed reflectors on vehicles and organised drawing competitions for students.
