Offline Steps to Apply for a Voter ID in Maharashtra

Documents required depend on which form you're filing. For most first-time Voter ID applicants (Form 6), you'll need:

• One recent passport-sized photograph
• Age proof (only if you are between 18 and 21 years old), any of these documents: Aadhaar card, passport, birth certificate, PAN card, driving licence, or school leaving certificate. Applicants above 21 can submit a self-declaration of age.
• Address proof showing your current place of residence; any of these documents: Aadhaar card, passport, ration card, bank passbook, or a recent electricity or utility bill.

All documents should be submitted as self-attested copies, meaning they must be signed by you. If you are filing Form 8 for voter details correction, you may need supporting documents for the specific change, such as a marriage certificate for a name change or a recent photograph for a photo update. The same form can also be used to apply for a duplicate Voter ID card. Maharashtra is currently undergoing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, a statewide voter list verification drive being conducted by the Election Commission of India. If you've moved to a new address, the process depends on whether you're staying within the same constituency or moving to a different one.

• If you've moved within the same constituency: Submit Form 8A online at Citizen Service Portal or offline at the nearest Electoral Registration Office, along with proof of your new address.
• If you've moved to a different constituency or another state: You cannot simply "transfer" your existing entry. You have to register afresh using Form 6 at your new address. Once your new registration is verified, your old entry is removed from the previous constituency's roll. In most cases, you do not need to separately request deletion of your old entry.
