RTO Bhopal

Being the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal is the growing hub of opportunities and urbanisation. People find this place perfect for living because of its climate, peaceful environment and great accommodation options.

Bhopal has one RTO in the vicinity, and its code is MP04. RTO Bhopal is responsible for managing all vehicle-related matters in the city. Also, it regulates traffic rules in the locality and ensures road safety.

The functions of this RTO are as follows:

• Issuance and renewal of different types of driving licence

• Conducting driving tests 

• Issuance of International driving permits

• Issuance of duplicate driving licence

• Vehicle Registration Certificate issuance and renewal

• Transferring vehicle ownership

• Issuing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates 

• Road tax collection

• Vehicle inspection and providing vehicle fitness certificate

Bhopal RTO provides different types of driving licence to drivers after testing their driving skills thoroughly and taking proper tests. They are as follows:

• Learners’ Licence
• Permanent Driving Licence
• International Driving Licence
• Commercial Driving Licence

After successfully registering the vehicle, you will get the RC and the number will be shown on the number plate. There are two types of vehicle registration done by Bhopal RTO. These are:

• Temporary registration 

• Permanent registration

There are some specific charges for different types of vehicle registration. These charges are listed below:

• Invalid Carriages: ₹50

• LMVs: ₹600 

• HMVs for Goods and Passengers: ₹1500

• Medium Goods and Passenger Carrying Vehicles: ₹1000

• Light Commercial Vehicles: ₹1000

• Imported Motor Vehicles: ₹5000

• E-rickshaw: ₹1000

Bhopal RTO is responsible for collecting road taxes from vehicle owners and follows the structure of the Madhya Pradesh road tax. These charges are as follows:

• Two-wheelers weigh up to 70 kg: ₹18

• Two-wheelers weigh more than 70 kg: ₹28

• Four-wheelers weigh up to 800 kg: ₹64

• Four-wheelers weigh between 800 kg to 1600 kg: ₹112

• Four-wheelers weigh between 1600 kg to 2400 kg: ₹132

• Four-wheelers weigh between 2400 kg to 3000 kg: ₹150

• Commercial passenger vehicle: Per seat ₹60

Traffic rules in Bhopal are strictly overseen by the local RTO. People who disobey the traffic rules must pay a fixed amount to the governing authority. Bhopal RTO follows the traffic fine structure of Madhya Pradesh that are as follows:

• Driving without wearing a seatbelt: ₹1000

• Driving without wearing a helmet: ₹1000

• First offence of driving without a proper number plate: ₹500

• Subsequent offences of driving without a proper number plate: ₹1500

• Minor driving: ₹25000

• Triple riding on two-wheelers: ₹1000

• First offence of parking in a no-parking zone: ₹500

• Subsequent offences of parking in a no-parking zone: ₹1500

• Overspeeding (for LMVs): ₹1000

• Overspeeding (for medium goods and passenger vehicles): ₹2000

• Drunken driving: ₹10000

• Road regulation violation: ₹1000

• Driving unregistered vehicles: ₹2000

Like all other cities in Madhya Pradesh, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving in Bhopal. Vehicle insurance is not only important to meet the legal criterion, but it is extremely helpful for car accident damage control. Driving uninsured vehicles on the road of Bhopal will cause an amount of ₹2000 as a fine.

Being one of the busiest cities in Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal has witnessed several unfortunate road events recently. 

The record of road accidents is increasing in Bhopal; as per the findings of the transport authority, eight road accidents took place on average every day in Bhopal in 2022. Due to the increased rate of accidents, traffic police pointed to 12 accident-prone spots in the city.

Due to the increased rate of accidents, different road safety measures have been taken by different organisations in Bhopal. One of the most important among these campaigns is HMSI Road Safety Awareness Campaign started on 24th April 2023. 

The camp continued for four days at Dav School and Kopla Public School in Bhopal. In this camp, the organisers tried to make young students aware of traffic safety and the importance of adhering to the rules.
