RTO Office Mapusa

Mapusa is a small town and a commercial centre in North Goa. It serves as a main tourist attraction as the streets are always bustling with tourists and residents. This town has a Regional Transport Office (RTO) functioning under the Department of Transport, Government of Goa. 

The RTO code of Mapusa is GA-03, and this office offers multiple vehicular services to vehicle owners here.

RTO Mapusa offers multiple functions that include:

• Collect Motor Vehicle Tax

• Arrange and renew driving licence

• Provide duplicate vehicle registration certificate

• Update/Change name in the driving licence

• Renew RC

• Register new vehicles

• Transfer vehicle ownership

• Furnish a duplicate licence/learner's licence

• Provide international driving licence

• Initiate Vehicle registration transfer

• Issue NOC for vehicle 

• Issue national, international and tourist permits

There are four types of driving licence issued by Mapusa RTO, which include the following:

• Learner’s Licence
• Permanent Licence
• International Driving Licence
• Commercial Driving Licence

Mapusa RTO issues two types of vehicle registration. These include:

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration 

Note: As the vehicle registration process concludes, please display the registration number on your vehicle’s number plate.

The vehicle registration charges in Mapusa RTO are as follows:

• Hypothecation Charges: ₹1500 (if you buy a car on loan)

• Registration Fees: ₹600

• Number Plate: For HSRP: ₹230 to ₹400

• Parking Fee/State Development Fee: ₹2000 – MCD Parking Fees for cars below ₹4 Lakh

• MCD Parking Fees for Cars Above ₹4 Lakh (Applicable in some States): ₹4000 

• Temporary Registration Charges: ₹1500 to ₹2500 (valid for a month)

• FasTag Charges: ₹500 to ₹600 (payable at the time of buying a car)

• Road Tax Fees: 

  • EV Cars: 6% for cars less than ₹10 Lakh, 8% for cars between ₹10 Lakh to ₹20 Lakh), 10% for cars Above ₹20 Lakh

  • Petrol/CNG Cars: 8% for cars Below ₹10 Lakh, 10% for cars between ₹10 Lakh to ₹20 Lakh, 12% for cars above ₹20 Lakh

  • Diesel Cars: 10% for cars less than ₹10 Lakh, 12% for cars between ₹10 Lakh to ₹20 Lakh, 14% for cars Above 20 Lakh

Mapusa follows the road tax levied by the Transport Department of Goa. The details of the Goa road tax are as follows:

Four-wheelers:

• 9% for four-wheelers less than ₹6 Lakh 

• 11% for four-wheelers between ₹6 Lakh and ₹15 Lakh

• 13% for four-wheelers between ₹15 Lakh and ₹35 Lakh

• 14% for four-wheelers more than ₹35 Lakh

Two-wheelers:

• 9% for two-wheelers less than ₹1.5 Lakh 

• 12% for two-wheelers between ₹1.5 Lakh and ₹3 Lakh

• 15% for two-wheelers more than ₹3 Lakh

Some of the Goa traffic fines are as follows:

• Overspeeding: ₹1500 (two-wheelers), ₹2000 (LMVs) and ₹4000 (HMVs).

• Drunk Driving: ₹10000 with six months of prison and ₹15000 with two years of prison (for repeated offence)

• Driving Without a Valid Driving Licence: ₹2000 (two-wheelers) and ₹3000 (three or four-wheelers).

• Disobeying Traffic Signals: ₹5000

• Riding a Two-Wheeler/Four-Wheeler Vehicle Without a Helmet: ₹500

• Not Giving Passage to Emergency Vehicles: ₹1000

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving on the roads of Mapusa or in any other Indian state. Failing to provide valid car insurance will lead to the payment of a fine of ₹2000 with three months in prison and ₹4000 with two years of prison (for repeated offence).

A recent news report confirmed that a resident of Mapusa of 21 years lost his life in the collision of a two-wheeler with an SUV. 

Another report said that two people were killed in two separate road accidents in Mapusa as an overloaded goods carrier collided with a two-wheeler.

Drive against violators of traffic rules is an awareness campaign that happened in the early months of 2023. This campaign was held to aware drivers and youngsters about fatal road accidents that occur due to malpractices like drugs.

As per recent news, it is decided that policemen in civil dress will shoot photos of traffic offenders in the Mapusa sub-division.
