National Highway 46 is one of the important highways connecting some of the prominent cities of Madhya Pradesh. This facilitates the transportation of both people and goods. This highway, constructed and maintained by the Central Government is also an important trade route facilitating the state’s economic development.

In 2010, the National Highway Authority in India (NHAI) renumbered the old national highways, namely NH 3, NH 12 and NH 69 into one highway, i.e., NH 46. This highway runs within the state of Madhya Pradesh from Gwalior to Betul.
