As per the new numbering system, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has clubbed two national highways: NH29 and NH97 to form a new one known as National Highway 24. Here is the list of important places within the state on this highway.

The National Highway 24 runs in a north-south direction entirely in the state of Uttar Pradesh connecting some major cities and towns of this state.

Entry and Exit Points of National Highway 24

This national highway starts from Sonauli in the Maharajganj district, located near the Indo-Nepal border region. Moreover, it ends at Saiyad Raja, in the Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh. Before the point of termination, it connects Sonauli, Pharenda, Gorakhpur, Ghazipur, Zamania, and merges with NH 19 in Saiyad Raja.

There are different categories of vehicles running within the national boundaries. The following are the types of vehicles and transports allowed on National Highway 24:

• Car/van/jeep
• Light commercial vehicle (LCV)
• Bus or truck
• Up to three-axle vehicles
• Four to six-axle vehicles
• HCM/EME
• Seven or more axle

Listed below are the speed limits set by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) on  national highway 24.

• Motorcycles: 80 km per hour
• Quadricycle: 60 km per hour
• Three-wheeled vehicles: 50 km per hour
• Motor vehicles with not more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat used to carry passengers: 100 km per hour
• Motor vehicles having nine or more seats in addition to the driver’s seat used to carry passengers: 90 km per hour
• Motor vehicles used to carry goods: 80 km per hour

The National Highway 24 lies entirely in Uttar Pradesh and has several beautiful places that you can visit while travelling. You can even travel a little distance off the national highway to explore some beautiful places like Sonauli, Pharenda, Gorakhpur, Doharighat, etc.

There are several things that one must consider while travelling on a national highway to ensure a safe journey, especially if you are taking the route for the first time.

• Check the weather forecast before starting off a journey as NH 24 mostly passes through eastern UP which receives frequent rainfalls. 
• Always watch out for poor road conditions. As the vehicle may get worn out eventually leading to an accident.
• Always keep an eye on and drive extra carefully in accident-prone zones or black spots on NH24.
• Maintain the permissible speed limit near Sonauli as it is adjacent to the Indo/Nepal border.
