How to Change/Update Photo in Aadhaar Card Online?

The Aadhaar card is the most widely accepted proof of identification in India. Therefore, citizens of India need to enrol on it. The enrolment procedure comes with no age limit. People with an Aadhaar card can follow the below steps to update their photo:

Step 1 - Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

Step 2 - Collect the ‘Aadhaar Enrolment or Correction or Update Form'. You can also download the form by visiting UIDAI’s official website.

Step 3 - Fill it out carefully, providing relevant information.

Step 4 - Then, submit it to the Executive present at the office.

Step 5 - The officer will then take the biometric information, which includes a live photograph.

Step 6 - You must pay an amount charged for the process.

Step 7 - Lastly, the Executive will provide you with an Update Request Number or URN. You can track the status of your update process with the help of that number.

People can download updated Aadhaar cards in the same way as new ones. Follow the steps below to download an updated Aadhaar card:

Step 1 - Visit the official UIDAI website.

Step 2 - Click on ‘My Aadhaar’.

Step 3 - A drop-down menu will open; from there, click on 'Download Aadhaar'.

Step 4 - Enter your Aadhaar number and Captcha, then click on ‘Send OTP’.

There will be an option called ‘Do you want a Masked Aadhaar?’ for those who want a masked Aadhaar instead of a regular one.

Step 5 - After you enter the OTP, click on ‘Download’.

Biometric information like fingerprints and photographs cannot be updated online. Hence, charges are not applicable for the same.

Aadhaar Enrolment Centres charge a sum of ₹ 100 for updating the information.

The need to change the photo on the Aadhaar card may arise because of the following reasons:

• When the age was less than 5 years old during enrolment: If a child is enrolled before 5 years of age, biometrics must be updated after he is 5 years old. 
• When the age was less than 15 years during enrolment: If a child is enrolled before 15 years of age, biometrics must be updated after he is 15.
• Poor quality of biometrics captured during enrolment: Many times, biometrics captured during enrolment are poor in quality. In such cases, it is necessary to update the biometric details.
