This unique number helps in tracking their correction or update requests. For example, the URN number looks like this: 0234/00123/05234.

URN stands for Update Request Number in the context of an Aadhaar card. It is a 14-digit number that’s used to track the update status of your applied request. URN can only be used to track the status and not to apply for updates in the Aadhaar.

Follow these steps to generate your URN number:

Step 1: Visit the official Aadhaar self-service portal. 

Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number or VID.

Step 3: For verification, enter the security or captcha code.

Step 4: Then request OTP; you will get this in your registered mobile number.

Step 5: Choose which aspect you want to update, for example, your address.

Step 6: Upload supporting documents, like address proof.

Step 7: You will get the 14-digit URN after successfully uploading all documents.

This is a step-by-step guide to help you check the status of URN number in Aadhaar.

Step 1: Go to the government self-service user portal. 

Step 2: Click on the "Check Enrolment & Update Status" option.

Step 3: You will redirect to a new page. Here enter your URN and captcha code.

Step 4: Now click on “Get Status.” 

Step 5: The next page will show you your URN status.

If you struggle in using this online method, here is an alternate offline mode to check the Aadhaar URN status.

Step 1: Visit any nearby Aadhaar enrolment centre.

Step 2: Carry your acknowledgement slip and remember your URN when you visit the centre.

Step 3: You can provide your URN and request the person-in authority to check its status. 

Step 4: They will enter these details in their system and tell you the progress status of your correction or update request.

Another offline method to check the Aadhaar status with URN is by calling on UIDAI’s toll-free number, 1947.As you dial 1947, you will be taken to an IVR. You can follow these steps to know the current status of your Aadhaar update application using the Update Request Number. 

Step 1: Choose whichever language you prefer.

Step 2: Confirm if you have enrolled for Aadhaar.

Step 3: Go to the status menu.

Step 4: Ask more about Aadhaar updates.

Step 5: Choose URN mode to check the status.

Step 6: Enter your 14-digit URN, and get your status update.

The three possible URN status results are:

• Successful: This indicates that all requested changes have been made to the Aadhaar card. If your status is successful, you can download its copy online and get this updated copy via post.
• Under Process: It indicates the changes still need to be approved. If you see your status is under process, check back in a few days.
• Rejected: Your update request is cancelled, and you must apply again.

An individual’s URN can get rejected for various reasons. Some of the common grounds are as follows:

• The applicant has provided incorrect information.

• An applicant has submitted documents without self-attestation.

• There are some typographical errors in their updated form.

• It demands some more documents from the applicant.

• Any of the documents is incorrect, like incorrect address proof.
