RTO Champa

Champa is a city in the Janjir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh and is an industrial town. It is famous for its Kosa silk, brass and gold which is exported to other states and countries as well. It is well connected to the rest of Chhattisgarh through motorable roads. 

All vehicles running on the roads of Champa are registered under its Regional Transport Office (CG-11) which provides many services like issuing various permits and certifications for vehicles.

Below are the types of vehicle registration offered by RTOs in Champa includes:

• Temporary registration: The validity of this type of registration is seven to thirty days.

• Permanent registration:  Permanent registration should be completed before the expiry of the temporary registration.

Vehicle registration charges at Champa RTO vary with the purpose of usage.

• Vehicle registration charges for all cars: ₹600

• Vehicle registration charges for different vehicles for specific purposes: ₹1000 - ₹3000

The fee of a duplication registration certificate is half the amount of the registration of the vehicle.

The road tax levied depends upon the weight and the age of the vehicle. Road taxes are levied by RTO Champa before the registration of the vehicles or if a vehicle is transferred newly to Champa and is collected for various transport-related services from the owners:

Chhattisgarh Road Tax structure is as follows:

• Road tax on new two-wheelers: 4% of vehicle cost.

• Road tax on old two-wheelers: ₹6000 - ₹30000, depending upon the weight, age and engine capacity of the vehicle.

• Road tax on three-wheelers: ₹15000 - ₹60000, depending upon the seating capacity and age of the vehicle.

• Road tax on new four-wheelers: 5% -6% of vehicle cost.

• Road tax on old four-wheelers: ₹50000 - ₹600000, depending upon the weight, age and engine capacity of the vehicle.

• Road tax on commercial vehicles: It depends on per seat and quarter.

All traffic rules are mandatory to follow and violating any of them attracts fines. Fine structure for traffic rules violation in Champa:

• Overspeeding: ₹1000 - ₹4000 (for both LMV and HMV)

• Driving while using mobile: ₹5000

• Driving under influence: ₹10000 for a first offence 

• Driving without a seat belt: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving without a licence: ₹5000 or community service

• Improper use of horns in silent zones: ₹1000 -₹2000.

According to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it is mandatory to have motor insurance in India. Third-party insurance is compulsory for all vehicles. Driving a vehicle without insurance can attract a fine of ₹2000 for a first-time offence and a fine of ₹4000 for a second-time offence.

Road accidents in Champa have increased with people’s lack of awareness about road safety. Failing to obey traffic rules has cost more than two lives within two months in 2023.

• An article says that in 2023 that two bikes collided head-on on the NH-49. One among the two was spot-dead on the Highway.

• Another accident took place when a bike carrying three people was hit by another whose driver was a minor boy. In this accident, one was killed while others were severely injured

• Two lives were lost owing to speeding. A car collided with a tree because the driver lost control due to overspeeding.

Due to increased road accidents and in an attempt to educate people about road safety, the police of Champa along with the RTO of Champa came up with various road safety campaigns. 

Road safety campaigns by Champa are as follows:

• Awareness through social media 

The transport department in Chhattisgarh has opened accounts on social media handles by the name “Road Safety Mitan” or “Road Safety CG”. Every city is making people aware of the importance of wearing helmets, seatbelts and other precautions that prevent road accidents through social media handles. 

• Meeting with transporters

The collector of Champa held a meeting with various industries, their transporters and members of Coal Vasari to discuss the road accidents caused by heavy goods carriers. In the meeting, various safety measures were discussed including mandatory health check-ups of drivers every 6 months.
