RTO Korba

Korba is an industrial town in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It currently houses a large population making this city busier by the day. Thus, there is a high need for proper traffic management which is done by the Korba Regional Transport Office (CG-12).

The RTO office monitors and maintains the town’s transport facilities and takes care of services like vehicle registration and issuance of driving licences.

Let’s take a broad look at the functions and more of Korba Regional Transport Office (Korba RTO).

Some of the main functions of Korba RTO are:

• Issuing learner's licence, hypothecation certificate, a permanent licence
• Issuance of registration certificate with an endorsement

RTO Korba provides several types of driving licence. Some of them are:  

• Light motor vehicle licence
• Geared two-wheeler licence
• Gearless two-wheeler licence
• Commercial four-wheeler licence
• Heavy motor vehicle licence
• Medium motor vehicle licence

Korba RTO issues two types of vehicle registration certificates: 

1. Temporary Registration 

2. Permanent registration

It is mandatory to carry the registration certificate (soft copy or hard copy) all the time while driving on public roads in Korba.

There are other charges that come along with the registration charges involved with the purchase of a vehicle. Here is a list mentioning some of them:

• Registration charges: ₹600 for every vehicle
• Road tax charges: 8% to 9% of a vehicle’s cost
• FasTag charges: ₹500
• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500
• Smart card and number plate charges: ₹1000

The Chhattisgarh road tax and charges are what Korba also follows. Calculation of the tax depends on several factors like age, weight and type of vehicle:

• For Two-wheelers (not more than 70 kg): ₹8000 (age 5 to 15) and ₹6000 (age 15+)
• For Four-wheelers (price ranging below to above ₹5 lakh): 5% to 6% of the price of the vehicle
• For Older Four-wheelers (not more than 800 kg): ₹1 lakh (age 5 to 15) and ₹50000 (age 15+)

Fines and penalties for traffic rule violations in Chhattisgarh are applicable in Korba. Here follows a list of penalties that one may face for violating traffic rules.

• Driving Without Licence: ₹5000 (may include community service)
• Over Speeding: ₹1000 to ₹2000 (LMV), ₹2000 to ₹4000 (MPV/HPV)  
• Driving Without Helmet: ₹1000 fine, or, cancellation of licence for 3 months
• Unnecessary Honking: ₹1000 to ₹2000 
• Violating Road Regulations: ₹500 to ₹1000

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance to drive vehicles on public roads in Korba. This insurance covers legal liabilities that can arise when a driver meets with an accident and there is damage to his body or vehicle and/or there is damage to a third person or property. There is a serious fine and penalty applicable for not having at least third-party insurance.

On 3^rd February 2023, news reported that a car crashed into a house in Korba and resulted in 2 deaths. The victims were returning from Tiwarta and the driver lost control and crashed the car into a house in Dongari village. It instantly killed Dashrath Kanwar, while 3 others were taken to a hospital where Ganesh Bai died.

On 13^th January 2023, it is reported that the Korba SP Santosh Singh conducted a “Hefazat campaign” to prevent road accidents. This campaign, apart from making people aware of the necessity of traffic rules, installed warning boards, radium strips, and rambler breakers declared accident-prone areas as black spots and more.
