Bordering Jharkhand and Odisha, Jashpur, a tier 3 city with RTO code CG14, is the administrative headquarters of the district and a well-known tourist spot. This office functions under the Government of Chhattisgarh Ministry of Road Transport and offers several services to vehicle owners here.

Jashpur conducts a list of comprehensive functions for vehicle owners in the city. These include:

RTO Jashpur offers the following types of driving licences to vehicle owners:

Jashpur RTO provides 2 types of vehicle registration certificates to the vehicle owners residing here. These include:

1. Permanent Registration

2. Temporary Registration 

Vehicle owners will receive a registration number after the process of vehicle registration concludes. Then, vehicle owners mandatorily need to display this number on the number plate of their vehicles.

As per the Registry of Motor Vehicles rules, 1990, the vehicle registration charges include:

• Registration Fees: ₹600 (for all vehicles)

• Number Plate and Smart Card Fee: ₹1000

• Hypothecation Charges: ₹1500 (if someone buys a car on loan)

• Temporary Registration Charges: ₹1200 to ₹1500 (for up to 1 month)

• FasTag Charges: ₹500 (on purchase of the vehicle)

• Road Tax Charges: Between 8% to 9% for registering a car in Chhattisgarh

Jashpur RTO follows the Chhattisgarh road taxes and they include:

Two-Wheelers:

• Old Motor Vehicles (below 70kg): ₹8000 (5 to 15 years), ₹6000 (over 15 years)

• Old Motor Vehicles (over 70kg till 200cc): ₹15000 (5 to 15 years), ₹8000 (over 15 years)

• Motor Vehicles (between 200cc to 325cc): ₹20000 (5 to 15 years), ₹10000 (over 15 years)

For old motor vehicles of more than 325cc, it is ₹30000 for 5 to 15 years and ₹15000 for over 15 years.

Four-Wheelers:

• New Vehicles (costing up to 5 lakhs): 5% of the vehicle’s price

• New Vehicles (costing more than 5 lakhs): 6% of the vehicle’s cost

• Old Vehicles (below 800 kgs to above 2000 kgs): ₹1 lakh to ₹6 lakhs (vehicle age 5 to 15 years), ₹50000 to ₹3 lakhs ( vehicle age above 15 years

Commercial Vehicles:

The state tax for a cab is calculated at ₹150 per seat per quarter, and if the cab has an all-India permit, then the payment is ₹200 per seat per quarter.

The new traffic fines followed in Jashpur include:

• Driving/Riding Without a Licence: ₹5000 and/or community service

• Driving Under Intoxication: ₹10000 and/or 6 months prison and ₹15000 and/or 2 years jail for the repetitive offence.

• Wearing No Seatbelt and Driving: ₹1000 and/or community service

• Blocking Emergency Vehicles: ₹10000 and /or 6 months in prison

• Driving/Riding Without a Permit: ₹10000 and/or 6 months to 1 year in prison

• Rash Driving: ₹1000 to ₹5000 for first time offence, ₹10000 for second time offence

Yes, it is mandatory to have a motor insurance when driving on the streets of Jashpur. However, if one fails to follow this rule, authorities will penalise ₹2000 and/or declare 3 months in prison, community service for the first offence and ₹4000 for the second offence.

Last year’s report says there was an issue with the traffic system in Jashpur due to the arbitrariness of the three-wheeler drivers. This led to the possibility of serious accidents as the roads turned congested.

Another news said that last year, in a massive accident, 3 people were killed and 6 others were injured as a bus they were travelling in overturned in a village in Jashpur district.

As per recent news, a road safety campaign started in Chhattisgarh, explaining that the events will be held throughout the week in collaboration with various organisations and the Chairman of Inter-Department Lead Agency Sanjay Sharma. This campaign will educate people about various traffic rules and guide them accordingly.
