RTO Koriya

Koriya is located in the northwestern part of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It houses a large population. Responsibility for these people's transportation lies in the hands of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the district. Koriya has 1 RTO (CG-16), which is also responsible for providing services such as issuance of driving licence, vehicle registration and more.

Some of the functions of Koriya RTO are:

• Issuance of registration certificate with an endorsement
• Issuing learner's licence, permanent licence,

RTO Koriya provides various types of driving licence. Some of them are:  

• Licence for light motor vehicle
• Licence for a two-wheeler with gear
• Licence for two-wheeler without gear Individuals
• Licence for commercial vehicle four-wheeler
• Licence for heavy motor vehicle
• Licence for medium motor vehicle

Koriya RTO issues two types of vehicle registration: 

1. Permanent registration

2. Temporary Registration 

The driver will get the number to display on the vehicle's number plate after this process. He or she has to carry a hard or soft copy of the RC at all times while driving.

Along with registration charges, there are certain other types of charges. Here is a short list of these charges:

• Registration charges: ₹600
• FasTag charges: ₹500
• Road tax charges: 8% to 9% of a vehicle’s price
• Smart card and number plate charges: ₹1000
• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500

Koriya follows the Chhattisgarh road tax and charges that depend on several factors. This is discussed in brief in the following list.

• For Two-wheelers (below 70 kg): ₹8000 (age 5 to 15), ₹6000 (age 15+)
• For Four-wheelers (costing below ₹5 lakh to above ₹5 lakh): 5% to 6% of the cost of the vehicle
• For Older Four-wheelers (below 800 kg): ₹1 lakh (age 5 to 15), ₹50000 (age 15+)

Fines and penalties for breaking traffic rules in Koriya are similar to that in Chhattisgarh. Here are some examples of the traffic police challan rates:

• Drunk Driving: ₹10000 (first time), ₹15000 (subsequent times)
• Blocking Emergency Vehicles: ₹10000 and 6 months jail time  
• Driving Without Helmet: ₹1000 fine, or, cancellation of licence for 3 months
• Driving Without Insurance: ₹2000 to ₹4000
• Unnecessary Honking: ₹1000 to ₹2000 
• Driving while using a mobile phone: ₹2000 to ₹10000

Yes. It is mandatory to have a motor insurance in Koriya to drive on public roads. Vehicle insurance is there to support in situations when there is an accident and it has damaged the vehicle, driver or some third person and third-party property. 

In Koriya, failing to show proof of insurance will mean ₹2000 to ₹4000 fine and may include other penalties.

On 21^st January 2023, a news reported that in Chhattisgarh's Koriya, 5 people died in separate accidents. At Sardi Chowk, a scooter's collision with a truck took the lives of 3, and in Phulpur village a pick-up vehicle hit a motorcycle killing the 2 riders.

Both cases are filed at Charcha police station, and searches are on for the drivers who fled the scene after the accident.

On 11^th January 2023, Road Safety week started in Koriya. It continued till 17^th January. On the instructions of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the campaign started at the Baikunthpur bus stand.

It involved among many other things: eye check-up camps for drivers, installation of reflector tapes on the front and back of vehicles, distribution of pamphlets, etc.
