The city of Bharuch was earlier known as Broach. It is the second oldest city in Gujarat. Today, it is popular for its textile mills, fertiliser and chemical plants industries. The RTO code of Bharuch RTO is GJ-16 and functions under the jurisdiction and supervision of the Gujarat government. It works with Gujarat’s state government to effectively implement the Motor Vehicles Act, of 1988.

Once you have completed the registration process as devised by the Bharuch RTO, they will provide you with one registration number. This is the number that will become your vehicle’s licence plate number.

The vehicle registration charges in Bharuch RTO include:

• Registration Charges for All Cars: ₹600
• Charges for Hypothecation If a Car is Bought on Loan: ₹1500
• Charges for State Development/Parking Fees: ₹2000 to ₹4000
• Temporary  Registration Charges: ₹1200 to ₹1500
• Charges for FastTag: ₹600 to be paid on the purchase of a new vehicle

Bharuch RTO issues road taxes depending on three main factors, namely the capacity of a vehicle, vehicle type, and age of that vehicle. Gujarat Road Tax is the same as Bharuch RTO as well. These are:

• For 2-Wheeler Vehicles: 6% of vehicle’s purchase price
• For 3-Wheeler Vehicles: 2.5% to 65 of vehicle’s purchase price
• For 4-Wheeler Vehicles: 6% of vehicle’s purchase price
• For Goods Vehicles of GVW Up to 7500 kgs: 6% of vehicle’s purchase price
• For Tractors of Commercial Use: 3% of vehicle’s purchase price

Traffic rules of Bharuch are the same as those of Gujarat; hence, the penalty charges that Bharuch RTO implies are the same as the applicable traffic fines in Gujarat. These are:

• Without Helmet Riding: ₹500
• Without Seatbelt Driving: ₹500
• Using Mobile Phones While Riding/Driving: ₹500 to ₹1000
• Overloading in Two-Wheeler Vehicles: ₹100
• Without Licence Driving: ₹2000 to ₹3000

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance when driving a vehicle in Bharuch. Not doing so will incur heavy penalty fines. As laid by the Motor Vehicle Act, of 1988, it is compulsory for all vehicle owners of India to insure their cars/motorcycles against third-party insurance. The penalty charges range from ₹2000 for two-wheelers, to ₹4000 for four-wheelers.

A news dated 28^th December 2022 reported a killing accident that took place due to a van ramming a roadside tree. In the incident, two priests and the van driver were killed. The accident took place at Netrang Taluka of Bharuch.

There was another news article published last year on five vehicle crashes that took place in Bharuch near Nabipur. The accident was between one container carrier, one car, and three buses. The car was crushed between the two other vehicles leading to the death of two people who were in the car. And, two others were also declared dead.

As part of the road safety campaign, the Gujarat government has taken the initiative to implement road safety lessons in all the schools in Gujarat. The syllabus will be included as a part of the social studies curriculum, in the form of supplementary lessons.
