RTO Dang

Dang is situated in the Aravalli district of Gujarat and offers stunning views, especially during monsoons. Since this is a popular tourist destination, it experiences a huge rush of traffic during the peak seasons. That is when the job of a Regional Transport Office becomes crucial. 

Dang has only one RTO, which is known by the code GJ-30.

Regional Transport Office operates according to the regulations of the Motor Vehicle Act and state government guidelines.

• Issuing driving licences

• Authorising vehicle registration certificate

• Offering various types of vehicle permits, including inter-state and national

• Collect taxes from registered vehicles

• Asserting guidelines to ensure drivers comply with the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act

• Conducting vehicle inspection for fitness certificate

The RTO in Dang issues four types of driving licence:

• International Driving Licence
• Learner’s Licence
• Permanent Driving Licence
• Commercial Driving Licence

RTO in Dang offers two types of vehicle registration.

• Temporary Vehicle Registration

• Permanent Vehicle Registration 

As per the Commissionerate of Transport in Gujarat, every vehicle owner, when issuing a registration certificate, has to pay a fixed fee. The fees vary from one vehicle type to another.

• Two-wheelers: ₹300

• Invalid Carriages: ₹50

• Light Motor Vehicles: ₹600- ₹1000

• Medium Motor Vehicles: ₹1000

• Heavy Motor Vehicles: ₹1500

• Imported Vehicles: ₹1000-₹2500

One of the major duties of an RTO is collecting road tax. This amount is later used to develop the city's infrastructure, road maintenance, etc. It is thus essential to complete its payment timely. • Two-wheelers: 6% of the vehicle cost

• Three-wheelers: 2.5% to 6% of the vehicle cost(depending on seating capacity)

• Tractors for commercial use: 3% of the vehicle cost

• Four-wheelers: 6% of the vehicle cost

If any person disobeys traffic rules in Dang, they have to pay fines for their violations. In some cases, the authorities may seize driving licences or even put people behind the bars. The police and the RTO in Dang follow the Gujarat traffic fines structure in this regard.

• Driving without a seatbelt: ₹500

• Parking in the wrong spot: ₹500 for the first offence, ₹1000 for the second time

• Not following the traffic rules: ₹1000- ₹5000 and/or six months to one year in prison, licence seizure.

• Triple riding on a two-wheeler: ₹100

• Overloading: ₹5000

• Racing: ₹5000 for the first time, ₹10,000 for the second time

• Using mobile phones while driving: ₹500, ₹1000 for subsequent offences

The Motors and Vehicle Act of 1988 states that it is mandatory to have motor insurance when driving anywhere in India. This act suggests that every vehicle owner must have at least a third-party liability cover. If the authority finds any vehicle without insurance, its respective owner has to pay a fine of ₹2000 for the first time and ₹4000 if their action is repeated.

The Hindu published a story about an accident that occurred a few months back in Dang. A tourist bus overturned and fell into the gorge near Saputara hill. As per the police’s report, two people died and around 30 people were injured. 

This incident had a grave impact, so much so that the Road and Building Department of the state installed a roller crash barrier for a stretch of 40km. This turned into a pilot project, as stated by the Indian Express.
