RTO Vadodara

Vadodara or Baroda is the second largest city in Gujarat. Located on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, this city houses a lot of people who rely on the Regional Transport Office for its needs such as registration of vehicles, driving licence, change of address or ownership of a vehicle, etc. It has one RTO (GJ-06) that is responsible for such services and more.

This list shows various functions of Vadodara RTO:

Vadodara RTO issues two types of vehicle registration: 

• Permanent registration

• Temporary Registration 

After successful completion of the registration process, the RTO will provide one with a number for displaying on the number plate. Additionally, a driver must keep the RC (soft or hard copy) at all times while driving on public roads in Vadodara. 

In Vadodara, various charges associate themselves with the registration process of a vehicle. Here is a list mentioning a few: 

• Registration charges: ₹600 for every vehicle

• Parking fee (Or, State Development Charges): ₹2000 (For vehicles costing under ₹4 lakh) - ₹4000 (For vehicles costing over ₹4 lakh)

• Temporary registration charges (valid up to 30 days): ₹1200 – ₹1500 

• FasTag charges: ₹600

• Number plate charges (including HSRP number plates): ₹230 - ₹400 

• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500 (In case a vehicle is purchased on a loan)

Road tax in Vadodara has a similar structure to road tax in Gujarat. This list can provide primary ideas:  

• Motorcycle: 6% of the vehicle’s price 

• Auto Rickshaw: 2.5% of the vehicle’s price

  • Seating capacity up to 3: 2.5% of the vehicle’s price
  • Seating capacity of more than 3 and up to 6: 6% of the vehicle’s price

• Tractor: 3% of the vehicle’s price 

• Four-wheeler: 6% of the vehicle’s price 

Vadodara follows the traffic fines and penalties for a traffic rule violation that Gujarat follows. Here are some violations and fines that occur commonly:

• Driving without a seatbelt: ₹500
• Driving without a helmet: ₹500
• Overloading two-wheeler: ₹100
• Driving without a licence: ₹2000 (for two-wheelers), ₹3000 (for three and four-wheelers)
• Using mobile while driving: ₹500 (first time), ₹1000 (subsequent times)
• Obstructing emergency vehicles: ₹1000
• Drunk driving: ₹10000 (may include 6 months prison), ₹15000 (may include 2 years prison for subsequent offence) 
• Driving unregistered vehicles: ₹5000 (for buses, trucks, etc.), ₹3000 (for smaller four-wheelers), ₹2000 (for three-wheelers), ₹1000 (for two-wheelers) 
• Driving while underage: ₹25000 (may include imprisonment for 3 years and deregistration of the vehicle for 1 year)
• Driving on the wrong side: ₹1500 (for two-wheelers), ₹3000 (for LMVs), and ₹5000 (for HMVs). 

Is It Mandatory to Have Insurance When Driving a Vehicle in Vadodara?

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance in Vadodara according to the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. In Gujarat, individuals can buy insurance through online or offline methods. Vehicle Insurance generally falls into two categories:

1. Comprehensive Insurance:

This is a combination of own and third-party damage cover. It will cover any kind of damage that may occur to someone’s own vehicle, themselves, a third person, and third-party property. It also provides cover for natural and man-made disasters. 

2. Third-party Insurance:

Third-party insurance covers bodily injuries caused by accidents, it compensates for physical disfigurement and death.

According to an India TV report on 8th February, a luxury car hit a bike rendering 1 dead and 1 severely injured in Vadodara. The incident took place near Nayara Petrol Pump where Snehal Patel was driving the four-wheeler intoxicated with alcohol. After the incident, the accused and his friends were arrested.
