Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving in Gandhinagar. Vehicles that run on the road without proper insurance make their owners liable to penalties. It could sometimes even lead to imprisonment.

Penalty charges for driving without proper insurance are ₹2000 for first-time offenders and ₹4000 for repeating the offence.

As per reports, an accident near the Tarapur Highway resulted in the death of 2 people. In the accident, a sedan crashed with a hatchback and driver causing the death of both drivers. The police have been collecting CCTV footage as evidence to further investigate the case. 

Another report cited that a car hit a pole near the Raisan Petrol Pump and resulted in the death of two people on the spot while 3 others suffered serious injuries. The driver had lost control and hit the car on a pole with such a speed that the wheelbase twisted.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat launched a website called ‘Gujarat Road Safety Authority’ and re-launched the ‘Scheme of Award to the Good Samaritan’. The Good Samaritan award was introduced to eliminate people’s negative mentality towards helping people in road accidents. People had a notion that taking people to the hospital after an accident may result in them getting involved in legal matters, hence this scheme was introduced for the betterment of the people.
