Sonipat is one of the 22 districts of Haryana state and follows the Haryana Road Tax, which are as follows:

Two-Wheelers (depending on price range):

• Anything Above ₹2 lakh: 8%

• Between ₹75000 & ₹2 lakh: 6%

• Up to Rs.75000: 4%

Four-Wheelers (depending on price range):

• Anything Above ₹20 lakh: 10%

• Between ₹6 lakh & ₹20 lakh: 8%

• Up to ₹6 lakh: 5%

Commercial Vehicles:

The Haryana state tax for a vehicle is evaluated at 2% of the vehicle cost. However, the road tax for Sonipat is:

• Between Seven and Twelve Seats: ₹1450 quarterly

• Between Four and Six Seats: ₹625 quarterly

• Till Four Seats: ₹600 quarterly

However, if any of these vehicles mentioned in the list above has a sidecar, it is not considered eligible for road tax. 

The traffic fines in Sonipat are as follows:

• Driving/Riding Without Registration: ₹5000 for a first-time offence and ₹10,000 for a subsequent offence

• Riding Without Licence: ₹5000 and/or community service

• Driving/Riding Using Mobile Phones: ₹5000

• Riding Without Wearing Helmet: ₹1000 and/or licence cancellation, community service for 3 months

• Rash Driving: ₹1000 to ₹5000 for first time offence, ₹10000 for second time offence

• Overboarding Passengers: ₹200 for every extra passenger and/or community service

• Using Horns in a Silent Zone: ₹2000 to ₹4000

• Jumping a Red Light: ₹1000 to ₹5000 and/or 6 months to 1 year in imprisonment, and seizure of your licence

Yes, it is mandatory to have a motor insurance while driving on the streets of Sonipat. In case you fail to have one, the fines include - ₹2000 and/or 3 months in imprisonment, community service, for a first-time offence and ₹4000 for continuous violation.

As per recent news, a bus and a container collided in Sonipat causing extensive jams on the Delhi-Panipat road. However, there were no casualties during the accident.
