• Transfer of Ownership:  If a used vehicle is sold or purchased, the RTO facilitates the transfer of ownership, ensuring that the RC is updated accordingly.
• Renewal of Registration: Once the validity of the initial registration expires, vehicle owners must renew their RC to continue using the vehicle legally.

After completing the learner’s phase, they are required to sit for a practical riding test to be awarded a permanent driving license.

2. Driving Licence for Light Motor Vehicles or LMVs

This license permits the holder to use light motor vehicles, including cars, SUVs, and light-make commercial vehicles. After receiving a learner's permit and subsequently passing a practical driving test, a permanent license is issued. The state transport office also renews such licenses and upgrades them.

3. Licence for Heavy Commercial Vehicles

Driving a heavy commercial vehicle such as a truck or a bus requires a special license. The KR Puram RTO issues this license after ensuring that particular age and experience criteria are met, followed by passing a practical riding test.

• Without a helmet: ₹500
• Without a seatbelt: ₹500
• Driving while using a mobile phone (first offence): ₹1,500 to ₹5,000
• Driving while using a mobile phone (second offence): ₹10,000
• Blocking emergency vehicles’s path: ₹1,000

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance for every vehicle owner in K.R. Puram. Any violation of this rule will lead to penalty charges and legal complications. The penalty charge for driving uninsured light motor vehicles is ₹3000 and for other types of vehicles, it is ₹4000.

• Sales certificate issued by the vehicle seller
• PAN card, passport, Aadhar card, Voter ID, or driving licence for ID proof

• Form 34 with loan details, if the vehicle is financed
• Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
• Vehicle insurance certificate from the seller
• NOC from the original RTO office if the vehicle was purchased in one state but needed to be registered in another
• Custom bills are required if registering an imported vehicle.

Recently, one such major incident happened on June 28th on the Pune Bangalore highway near KR Puram, Karnataka, where thirteen people lost their lives. The incident occurred in the early hours, around 3:45 am when a mini-bus carrying 17 passengers collided with a stationary truck near the Gundenahalli crossing in the Haveri district.

Overall, KR Puram has been facing frequent road-related incidents recently, largely due to congestion, narrow roads, and high speeds as drivers enter the area from highways.

Karnataka Civil Defence Corps initiated the road safety awareness program with Kristu Jayanti College and Devanahalli Traffic Police Commission near KR Puram. Held at Narayanapura cross near Kothanur, Bengaluru, the initiative sought to educate students, pedestrians, and motorists on the importance of following traffic regulations to reduce accidents.

This campaign was started by involving 100 students who could engage the public by giving them the do’s and don’ts for wearing seat belts and helmets and the do n’ts in parking. In addition, the police department facilitates the campaign with relevant input from students carrying banners on safe driving campaigns. 

Their combined efforts raised awareness and armed them with the broader picture of road safety, reducing road deaths.
