Some of the uses of a legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh are: 

• A legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh can be used to claim the property of a deceased person.
• A legal heir certificate can be used to transfer the connections of electricity and telephone, house tax, bank account, and other important accounts.
• It can also be put to use to claim advantages of official service, government office privileges, and property settlements. 
• A legal heir certificate can be very useful when one wants to get employed with the help of compassionate appointments.
• A legal heir certificate is also required to claim the insurance of the deceased person.

The following individuals are eligible to apply for a legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh: 

• Spouse of the deceased
• Parents of the deceased
• Children of the deceased
• Siblings of the deceased

The application for a legal heir certificate occurs through two ways: Online and Offline. Let’s look at them one by one:

1. Online Process

• Step 1: Open the e-portal by Delhi government. 
• Step 2: Click on the tab that redirects you to the application for legal heir certificate.
• Step 3: Fill in the required information in the application form. 
• Step 4: Upload the necessary documents within the size range mentioned.
• Step 5: Submit the application form.
• Step 6: Make the payment.
• Step 7: After you are done with the online process, you will need to visit the district magistrate physically for the document verification .

2. Offline Process

• Step 1: Visit the nearest Tehsildar Office. 
• Step 2: Grab the application form for getting a legal heir certificate. 
• Step 3: Fill in the required field in the form. 
• Step 4: Attach the self-attested documents with the application form.
• Step 5: Submit the application form. 
• Step 6: Make the payment.

After the payment, the applicant will receive a text message containing the acknowledgment number. Once the application gets processed and verified, the legal heir certificate gets issued. 

Note: Akshaya Centres only apply to the state of Kerala and not Uttar Pradesh.

While submitting the application form for the legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh, you need to have the following documents: 

• Residential Certificate of the deceased person 
• Aadhaar Card
• Ration Card
• Voted ID 
• Passport sized photograph 
• Death Certificate of the deceased person 
• Affidavit stating declaration from every family member of the deceased person 

To apply for a legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh, you need a total of ₹22. ₹20 for the stamp paper and ₹2 for the stamp, and you are good to go.

Legal heir certificates cannot be downloaded and must be collected from the Tehsil office in Uttar Pradesh. 

So, a legal heir certificate is of utmost importance when it comes to Uttar Pradesh or, for that matter, any state in India. It is a very crucial piece of paper to claim the deceased's possession.  However, if someone is mentally unfit, he/she is not fit to apply for a legal heir certificate.
