• An Army officer is an operative of the Indian Armed Forces who has a knack and authority to run and conduct specific responsibilities within the force. A career as an Army officer includes a variety of ranks under his or her command. 
• Lieutenant is the lowest rank in the Indian Army officer series, followed by Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, and General Officer. All of the Army officer's series designations are considered leaders.

Commissioned Officers Rank

The Indian Army is led by commissioned officers who can issue orders to any level of the organisation from the lowest to the highest. The dress logo comes in black, gold or silver, based on the regiment. Multiple commissions are available, including the following:

Junior Commissioned Officers' Ranks

Junior commissioned officers (JCOs) are typically promoted from the ranks of non-commissioned officers (NCOs). When comparing the Indian Army to the Western Army, the JCO ranks right between the warrant officers. There are three types of Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), all of which are in supervisory roles:

• Naib Subedar

Honorary Ranks

The Indian Army, including the India Territorial Army (ITA), often bestows honorary ranks and brevets for exceptional service. In some cases, those who hold these levels may not be eligible for any financial or other benefits. Among the prestigious ranks in the Indian Army are:

The Indian Army also employs non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and regular soldiers, sometimes known as "sepoys" or "jawans."
