RTO Allahabad

Allahabad is the most populated city in Uttar Pradesh. Traffic congestion and accidents are frequent due to the high population in this city. A huge number of vehicles get registered every day under the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Allahabad. UP-70 is the code for Regional Transport Office in Allahabad, and it was created under the guidelines of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

The RTO in Allahabad was created to perform the following functions:

• To ensure the growth and development of road transportation.
• To spread awareness about road safety.
• To ensure proper enforcement and implementation of provisions of the Motor Vehicles ACT of 1988.
• To issue driver and learner's licence.
• Register new vehicles and also renew the registrations.
• To issue various types of motor permits.
• To conduct fitness tests and driving tests for issuing driving licences and fitness certificates.

Types of Driving Licences issued by Allahabad RTO are as follows:

• Driver’s licence
• Learner’s licence
• International driving license
• Authorisation of vehicles carrying hazardous chemicals.
• Addition of another vehicle class to the licence.

Allahabad RTO provides two types of vehicle registration:

• Temporary Registration

• Permanent Registration

Vehicle registration fees vary with the type of vehicle and their specific purpose of usage. Below are the registration charges for some vehicles:

• Imported Bike: ₹2500
• Imported Car: ₹5000
• Three-wheelers and Four-wheelers for Private Use: ₹600
• Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle: ₹1500
• Heavy Goods Vehicle: ₹1500
• Medium Passenger Vehicle: ₹1000
• Medium GoodsVehicle: ₹1000
• Other Vehicles: ₹3000

According to Section 3 of the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicle Taxation Act of 1962, every owner has to pay tax at the time of vehicle registration following the Uttar Pradesh Road Tax structure.

• Road Tax for Two-wheelers Costing ₹0.2 lakhs to ₹2 lakhs: 2%-6% of vehicle cost

• Road Tax for Cars Costing up to ₹6 lakhs: 3% of vehicle cost

• Road Tax of Cars Costing ₹6 lakhs to ₹20 lakhs: 6%-8% of vehicle cost

• Goods Vehicle (1 tonne): ₹665 

• Goods Vehicle (1-10 tonnes): ₹940 -₹3320

• Goods Vehicle (more than 10 tonnes): ₹3320  + ₹470/tonne

Not following traffic rules in Allahabad can result in hefty fines, licence suspension or even imprisonment. Fines for Traffic rules violations in Allahabad are as follows:

• Driving Without a Number Plate: first offence: ₹500, second offence: ₹1500

• Driving While Using Mobile: first offence: ₹1000, second offence: ₹5000

• Driving Without a Helmet: ₹1000 and licence suspension for 3 months

• Using the Wrong Number Plate: ₹5000 

• Driving While Physically/Mentally Unfit: first offence: ₹1000, second offence: ₹5000

• Driving Without a Seatbelt: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving Without a Licence: ₹2500 

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance in Allahabad. Third-party insurance is mandatory by the government of India as per the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Driving your vehicle without it can attract a fine of ₹2000 for first-time offenders and a fine of ₹4000 for repeated offences. 

Potholes, illegal cuts and trucks standing on the highways resulted in 288 deaths in Allahabad in 2022. Following are some recent traffic events in Allahabad:

• Three were killed in an accident where an Innova crashed into a trailer standing on the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway in November 2022.

• In the same year, former Pradhan died in a bike accident when he was hit by a car near an illegal cut.

• According to road accident statistics, 93 people were killed due to the standing trailers, and 195 were killed because of potholes and blind turns till October 2022.

• Campaigns in Schools

Campaigns in schools are a part of road safety programs in Allahabad. Since the young generation constitutes the future, road safety awareness programs are arranged in schools where students are made aware of it through video and audio clips. 

Also, interaction with students about road safety is an important aspect of the road safety campaign.

• Road Safety Rally

Members of Kinnar Akhara, along with members of the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET), took out a rally in November 2022 to educate people about road safety measures. 

In this rally, people are requested to wear helmets and seatbelts and to follow all the precautions required to avoid loss of life in accidents.
