RTO Ghazipur

Ghazipur is a populated district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. UP-16 is the RTO code of Ghazipur and it regulates all regional vehicle-related matters. Under Motor Vehicles Act 1988, the functions of this RTO have been fixed and strictly executed throughout the area.

Below are the functions that RTO Ghazipur offers to the local people:

• Vehicle registration
• Collecting motor vehicle taxes
• Issuing driving licences
• Conducting driving licence tests
• Issuing learner’s licence
• Issuance of vehicle fitness certificate
• Issuing driving permits, for example, an international driving license
• Monitoring traffic offences and collecting penalties due to traffic rule violations
• Reforming laws and execution of new laws

Ghazipur RTO provides different types of driving licence such as:

• Driving licence for heavy passenger and goods-carrying vehicles 

• Driving licence for LMVs (both commercial and non-transport)

• Licence for light motor vehicles, motorcycles, and cars more than 50cc

• Licence for 2-wheelers of 50cc or less than 50cc 

• Driving licence for scooters and mopeds (without gear)

• Driving licence for heavy trailers (only for heavy vehicle drivers)

Generally, there are two types of vehicle registration certificate in Ghazipur:

1. Permanent Registration

2. Temporary Registration

However, drivers need to register their vehicles as per the category. This registration number is shown on the number plate of a vehicle.

The vehicle registration charges are uniform throughout the state. Thus the charges are:

• LMV (Non-Transport): ₹600

• LMV (Transport): ₹1000

• Heavy Passenger-Carrying Vehicles: ₹1500

• Invalid Carriages: ₹50

• Three-wheelers: ₹600  

• Medium Goods Vehicles: ₹1000

• Imported Motorcycles or 3-wheeler: ₹2500

• Motorcycle: ₹300 

• Medium Passenger Vehicles: ₹1000

• Other Vehicles: ₹3000

Ghazipur RTO collects road taxes at the local level. The norms followed are those of UP road tax norms. Government fixes the tax amount following the cost, capacity, and weight of the vehicles. These are as follows:

Two-wheelers

• Less than 90.72 kg: ₹150

• Up to ₹0.20 lakh:  2% of the value of the vehicle

• Within ₹0.20 to ₹0.60 lakh: 4% of the value of the vehicle

• Within  ₹0.60 to ₹2 lakh: 6% of the value of the vehicle

• More than ₹2 lakh: 8% of the value of the vehicle

Four-wheelers

• Up to ₹6 lakh: 3% of the value of the vehicle

• Between ₹6 to ₹10 lakh: 6% of the value of the vehicle

• Between ₹10 to ₹20 lakh: 8% of the value of the vehicle

• More than ₹20 lakh: 9% of the value of the vehicle

Loading Capacity

• Less than 1 ton: ₹665

• From 1 to 2 tons: ₹946

• From 2 to 4 tons: ₹1430

• Between 4 to 6 tons: ₹1915

• Between 6 to 8 tons: ₹2375

• From 8 to 9 tons: ₹2865

• More than 10 tons: ₹3320 along with added vehicle tax for UP transport for each ton

• Each tone above 10 tons: ₹470

Not following traffic rules properly will cause penalties in Ghazipur like in all other parts of UP. These charges are also uniform throughout the state. These are:

• Over speeding: ₹4000

• Driving without putting on a seatbelt: ₹1000

• Driving without a licence: ₹5000

• Not wearing a helmet while driving: ₹500

• Driving and using a phone or talking: ₹1000 (first time)

• Driving and using a phone or talking: ₹10000 (second time)

• Disobeying parking rules: ₹500 (first time)

• Disobeying parking rules: ₹1500 (second time)

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance in Ghazipur. This is a necessary step to ensure your vehicle’s overall safety. Besides, it is legally mandatory too. Any violation of this rule will cause penalties, registration or licence cancellation, etc.

Being a populated part of Uttar Pradesh, Ghazipur is quite a congested area and has witnessed several unfortunate accidents. For example, there is a report of death of a police officer in a road accident, a report of death of one in a school bus and scooter collision, etc. The local RTO is taking steps to reduce the number of accidents in this region, however, people should be more aware and adhere to every traffic rule to avoid mishaps.

In addition, to manage congestion and ensure maximum comfort during commutation, some roadway projects are going on in Ghazipur. Ghazipur-Manjhi Ghat Greenfield Expressway is an example of this.

Road safety is a rising concern in the state of Uttar Pradesh. To enhance the awareness regarding road safety among common people Ghazipur authority arranged a bike rally which the district magistrate was also a part of. After this, the state government also arranged a road safety awareness month this year from 5th January to 4th February which was maintained throughout the state including Ghazipur.
