Azamgarh RTO Office

Azamgarh is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh in the Purvanchal sub-region. The RTO code of Azamgarh is UP-50 which has been regulated under the Transport Commissioner of Azamgarh under Section 213(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Azamgarh RTO maintains a database of all registered vehicles and it also measures and enforces the regulations mentioned in the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

In order to carry out all the provisions mentioned in the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, Azamgarh RTO provides several services to its citizens. These include:

• Renewal of vehicle registration certificate

• Issuance and renewal of driving licence in Uttar Pradesh

• Mechanical inspections of vehicles

• Road tax collection

• Issuance of tourist and commercial vehicle permits in India

• International driving permits

RTO in Azamgarh offers several types of driving licences in India. These include:

• Heavy goods Motor Vehicle licence

• Commercial Light Motor Vehicle licence

• Light Motor Vehicle licence for engine capacity over 50cc

• Non-transport Light Motor Vehicle licence

• Two wheeler licence

• Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle licence

There are two types of vehicle registration certificates issued in Azamgarh RTO offices. These are:

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration

However, there are a few procedures available related to these 2 registrations. These include the transfer of vehicle registration or possession, re-registration of a vehicle, getting the NOC, cancellation of NOC, end of contract buy, employee buy etc.

The vehicle registration charges of Azamgarh RTO offices are as follows:

• Two Wheeler: ₹300

• Three Wheeler: ₹600 - ₹1000 (for Non Transport)

• Quadricycle: ₹600 - ₹1000 (for Non Transport)

• Light Motor Vehicles/Four Wheeler/Cars: ₹600 ( for Non-Transport)

• Four Wheeler/ Light Motor Vehicles/Cars: ₹1000 (for Transport)

• Issue of Smart Card: ₹200

• Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle: ₹1500 (for Commercial)

• Medium Goods and Passenger Motor Vehicle: ₹1000 (for Commercial)

• Imported Motor Vehicle (Bikes and Cars): ₹2500 - ₹5000

• Other charges: ₹3000

Azamgarh RTO maintains the UP road taxes depending on the vehicle type and their costs. The list of taxes includes:

• For Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s price

• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s price

• For Commercial Vehicles (loading below 1 ton to 10 tons): ₹665 to ₹3320

• For Commercial Vehicles (loading above 10 tons): ₹3320 + ₹470 for each ton

Breaking regulations of the roads attract traffic fines in Azamgarh. It is same as Uttar Pradesh traffic fines according to the Indian Road Rules that came into effect in July 1989. Thus, here is a list of traffic fines to get a detailed view of the same.

• Drunk driving: ₹10000 and/or 6 months imprisonment

• Dangerous driving: ₹1000 to ₹5000 and licence seizure and/or 6 months to 1 year imprisonment

• Riding without a helmet: ₹1000+ licence seizure for 3 months

• Driving without a licence: ₹5000

• Juvenile driving: ₹25000 + 3 years in prison

• Violating rules of road regulation: ₹500

Yes, it is mandatory to have a motor insurance while driving a vehicle in Azamgarh. Driving without insurance is a punishable act and the RTO penalises ₹2000 and/or 3 months of imprisonment for the first time. In this regard, if there is a repetition of the same act then the fine is ₹4000 with 3 months of imprisonment according to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

According to a recent report of Azamgadh, people did not show any interest in following the regulations of traffic rules during the celebration of Road Safety Month on 5th January. In this regard, they were not maintaining the road rules despite a 6.4% increase in fatalities in road accidents between January and December 2022 compared to 2021.

Azamgarh celebrated Road Safety Month on 5th January on the instructions of the state government. Another campaign suggests that various programs are arranged under the road safety campaigns of Azamgarh. This campaign will include several initiatives such as:

• Upper primary and secondary schools’ competition

• Health camps on highway toll plazas 

The primary objective of this campaign is to raise road safety awareness and minimise road accidents and spread this into society.
